All of the people from their generation have either passed away or are dealing with serious medical conditions and while I'm sure those two also have some age related conditions whenever they appear in public they don't have any speech problems at all and look perfectly healthy
Genetics Haven't seen Big George in a while, last time I saw him he was starting to show his age especially in his face.. Considering all the blows he took in his very long career he does sound real clear when he talks...
George took a lot of punishment and fought for a very like time, Ali, Young, Lyle,Holyfield, Morrison, Alex Stewart, and even Moorer, just to name a few who Gave George a lot of punishment in their fights.
Yes, as a relatively older fighter, his face took a fair few shots. Incidentally, I don't know how true it is, or what sort of hype is put around by whoever, but I did read something a few years ago that Alex Stewarts gloves had been "modified" in some way to ensure the guy on the other end took harder shots? B/S rumour? Anyone else read anything similar?
Genetics...Watched the Facing Ali documentary recently. Quite a few of those fighters from the era spoke in it. Henry Cooper, seemed pretty clear minded when he spoke, as well as Ron Lyle and Terrell. All the great battlers from that era are nearly gone. It will be a sad day when the the final few leave us.
It was that strong Slavic bone structure of Chuvalo's that saw him through....those Croatians are strong, hearty, rugged people.
Until he succumbed to dementia, Floyd Patterson was always a lucid, articulate and intelligent sounding man.
Yes his face sustained a lot of damage in the Stewart fight.. I've never heard anything about Stewarts gloves being "modified"??? I'm glad now that guys are supervised while getting wrapped, and their gloves checked these day's to stop the cheaters...
Correlation does not equal cause. Pugilistic dementia can come with depression and other mood disorders--both from the psychological toll of being disabled and the actual effect of the brain trauma--which can lead a person to use drugs and drink.
