How come Kovalev is reviewed as a big favorite in a matchup against Andre Ward?

both froch and kessler would get knocked out by kovalev also simply because kovalrv is a very strong 175 fighter who hits very hard for LH

Just because you achieved more does not mean you will not lose

Jokes aside, I think people favor Kovalev because he's bigger, a monstrous puncher, and Ward's been inactive. I can't think of anyone, 168 or 175, that'd be favored over Kovalev at this point.

I'd favour Ward because he's the more skilled fighter and I generally learnt to go with that.

The thing is that Kovalev is looking pretty beastly at 175 and Ward hasn't really treaded that territory yet, there are question marks if he could handle his power if Kovalev lands and he'd be harder to outbox than Kessler and Froch too because of his size and I'd even say superior skill to those two guys.

 

Because Kovalev has good skills and brutal power @175, Ward showed he can be hurt @168. Ward might outbox Kovalev for a couple of rounds but he doesn't have the power to hurt him seriously and Kovalev has enough skills to eventually catch him with something big.

 

Kovalev ko's all of Wards best wins, let's be honest. Kovalev is light years better than anyone Ward has fought, plus it's at a higher division. I'm a Ward fan, to me he beats everyone from 160-168, but I just don't like him in the Kovalev fight.

 

Kovalev has underrated boxing skills, add to that a big size advantage, massive power in both fists and very good timing, you can see why he'd be the favorite

So what? Kessler and Froch are untested at light heavyweight. Neither Froch or Kessler are as technical or as powerful as Kovalev. Kovalev has never been outboxed :deal Froch was close to drawing with Ward, and Froch was nowhere near the technical genius Kovalev is, and nowhere near the power. It is just common sense people will choose Kovalev. Kovalev is stronger, more powerful, extremely technical and is a tactical mastermind. Ward will get knocked out.

 

IMO its 60/40 in favor of ward .

Yes Kovalev has tremendous power: he's killed a guy already. Beat the **** out of Cleverly, Pascal and made Hopkins look not so slick and probably would have knocked him out with another 30 seconds. But he also has good boxing skills... a deadly combination. I think he is a better boxer than Ward. Throw in the power and Ward is in for a very rough night. Plus Ward showed chin issues recently. Kovalev will knock him out of the ring.

 

Kovalev is the favorite because he is the physically stronger man, who bill be at nearly 190 come fight night. He is a career LHW while Ward only had one soft touch at the weight so far, he is the unified champ in the weight division above the one in which Ward fought for most of his career, has far better wins in the last 4 years and it doesn't matter what Ward did yesteryear, in boxing you are always as good as in your last fight. Ward fought 3 times in the last four years, 2 soft touches and the ghost of Chad Dawson.

Kovalev will be the betting favorite, this doesn't mean that Ward doesn't have a chance or anything but the bookies will in all likelyhood favor Kovalev.

If they don't and american bookies get a bit caught up in national sentiment, I'll have a sum on Kovalev.
