How come Kovalev is reviewed as a big favorite in a matchup against Andre Ward?

Why was Barrera a 4 to 1 favorite against Pacquiao?

Manny had been by far the most dominant fighter at 122 for years. More dominant than Ward had been at 168.

So you see perception doesn't always coincide with reality.

Kovalev is a big LHW with a good jab good boxing skills and good power. He will be a tough test for Ward no doubt and probably should be the favorite if they ever do square off.

You may be right about Ward getting KOd.... Who knows. But Ward dominated Froch, had a broken hand, took his foot off the gas, and the cards were still closer than they should have been.

That all being said, none of that matters if the 2 guys square off. Nor does Darnell Boone, or Blake Caparello, or anyone on either guy's ledger.

This fight could either way. Kovalev's agression, superior power and underrated boxing ability or Ward's speed, tactical mastery, and adaptability. As I said, a really good fight.

this is crystal clear, i dont know why people dont understand the logic
or maybe they are refusing to admit that Kova is for real :think

Ward has never shown any significant
ability to me. His wins over Kessler
and Froch were ugly and due more to
stylistic advantages than special skills. Kovalev isnt special either
but is as skilled, in his style, as
Ward is but with more size, strength
and power. If they fight, its only
logical that Sergey be the favorite.

Ward has refused to fight Kovalev, when asked why he would not fight Kovalev, Ward said that Kovalev was too big. Ward has also refused to fight Stevenson at 168...........................

It's common ****ing sense Kovalev is the clear favorite.

Not only is he bigger, stronger, and just as smart as Ward... but he's rated one of the hardest P4P punchers in the damn SPORT! We've seen how he killed someone, made Pascal (for the record has a great chin) get knocked out, finished the fresh Cleverly, and Hopkins was dominated every round.

Hopkins didn't stand a chance, he even tried to lunge for a headbutt and clinch.. that didn't work.. LMAO and Ward loves to do this, too bad it won't be effective on Kovalev at all.

Ward should stick to GGG, he can beat him. Not Kovalev, risky business if he goes down that path..

Kovalev is quickly improving from puncher to versatile boxer. He has a great trainer and he shows something new in every fight. Nobody ever believed that he will win against Hopkins by outboxing him. Ward has showed a bit of fragility at 168. If he fights against Kovalev who is bigger fundamentally sound and ever improving I think he will lose. That's not to take a hit at Ward. He is not a huge 168 fighter and 175 against a maniac like Kovalev will be too much for him. In the same way I think that GGG is a tremendous fighter but I will heavily favor Ward if they meet at 168. I honestly believe that the 3 fighters are about the same level skill-wise so the bigger man should win in the respective match-ups.

I am a big Kovalev and Golovkin fan but don't favor either

I don't think anyone in the 160-175 range is a clear favorite over Ward but Kovalev has some good chances

I'd pick Kovalev but it's a tight one to call. It would easily be Wards best win should he move up and dominate Kovalev

I think wards inactivity will effect him. He has not had a top fight in what three years? Im also not convinced he is 100% motivated anymore either. Imo kov beatS him and so does GGG

I think Kovalev would beat Ward pretty easy. Style wise it is an awful fight for Ward. Ward is used to clinching, grabbing, holding, headbutting, and bending below the waist and he isn't going to be able to do that against a guy that is 190 on fight night and has savage power in both hands. Even the 'crafty' Hopkins couldn't do any of his illegal tactics and was relegated to running and not engaging.
