Tyson was a phenom in his day everyone loved him the way he was knocking people out and I dont believe for one second Lennox was the better boxer but that is my opinion.

During his prime did you see Tysons defense? His combinations? His K.O power?

    Damn I miss him......

How many times have you heard commentators say oh he's a mini-Tyson or he's the next Tyson!

Have you ever heard anyone say he's mini-Lennox or he's the next Lennox?

    :)

Yes but his prime was way too short and his lifestyle was terrible. Lewis had a great career and his record isn't tarnished because he retired at the right time and didnt sell himself out to get KO'd for a quick buck like Tyson did

Tyson was a hype job, Lewis was a real boxer.

    People love hype jobs.

Well to be fair, there isnt THAT big a discrepancy.

I mean LOTS of people know Lewis.
But Tyson was a phenomenon when he was 20,and also unfortunately developed a reputation OUTSIDE of the ring.

Thats maybe the big difference. Lewis was very low key and media shy when he wasnt fighting. He didnt court publicity.

...He also never raped or bit anyones ear....that I know of.

What does he lifestyle have to do with his popularity, 'Nard lives a great healthy existance is he popular?

People also don't care if you lose your final bouts they were there for the heights of his career of K.O'ing mofo's, by the time you are at the end of your career your fan base and popularity (or notority in Tysons case) has been made.

Tyson was far more exciting in the ring than Lennox anyway you look at it....plus people either loved him or hated him but you damn sure watched him.

Even the British didn't support Lennox till the end of his career in the press often reminding us that he was infact Canadian and not British!

tyson came up durin an era...when a new culture(hiphop) was just emergin to the american public and the world...and rappers in the mid to late 80's would use him as metaphors in their songs...becuz he came from where they did and burst onthe scene and got notoriety by bein the most fear man on the planet.. he was embraced becuz of his style and feriousness....in a time of civil unjustice...that people could relate to....

Tyson out of the ring was entertaining as hell. Could you imagine if TMZ was around back then? Tyson would be even BIGGER haha

No kidding. Lewis is ridiculously overrated, as this thread demonstrates. Holyfield was better, and yes, Tyson was too. Lewis had a questionable chin, and as a result a safety first style that made for boring results. Except of course when he opened up and ended up on ***** street against McCall and got starched by Rahman!
