Wilder - athletic but for his height he is skinny as hell, gets amazing leverage into shots with his long arms.
McClellan - same as Wilder, just smaller guy
    Jackson - same
    Hearns - same

Hell even Pavlik who wasn't really a 1 hitter quitter had similiar qualities.

    Jackson wasnt tall and lanky.
As for the reason leverage is probably the main reason why some of those tall lanky guys can punch but there are factors involved.

Hold Earnie Shavers, Sonny Liston, mike tyson, lennox lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Frank Bruno, Riddick Bowe, Rocky Marciano, Joe Frazier, Ron Lyle, David Tua, Donovan Razor Ruddock, Tommy Morrison, Gerry Cooney, and George Foreman's beer!
In all serioussnes, it's just a gift from god, and somehow most of these guys who received it where skinny.

Jackson and G-man were built nothing like Hearns, he was taller than both of them with a much longer reach.

Punching power is to do with CNS (central nervous system). Basically how many muscle fiber you can recruit. It's not a simple mass and acceleration equation as many misguided people want you to believe. Like a tiny 130 lbs Chinse Olympic lifter is stronger than Wladimir Klitschko or Anthony Joshua. Why? Because his CNS is efficient in recruiting muscle fibers. Lasha Talakhadze (best weight lifter ever) probably punches harder than Wilder.

A very good comparison on this topic would be 2 LHs - Tall, lean , slim, even skinny Bob Foster up against stocky, muscled, strong, Harold Johnson, we know someone who didn't know a jot about boxing would pick when asked who do they think was the bigger puncher. keep well.

He was more cans crusher than Wilder and more rude too.

He had get a title fight after beated up a boxer who before this had 4 lost fights in row, 2 from these fights his opponent had lost via stoppages and beating up such boxer for business had been enough to gave a title shot?:D
    :bump:D.
0-11-0 boxers beatup in resume too looks damn cool proof how good he was.
Rude puncher hyped up un U.S by don. Nothing more.

If he was Eastern European you'd be hailing him as one of the very greatest boxers of all time.

The idea of beeing born as puncher is absolut BS. There is no scientific proof nor any Biological explanation to this.

Only thing I a bit hate is professional boxing created to entertain puffy asses in cubicles for their $.
Not more shame in the whole world higher and more laughable than professional boxing to entertain fat asses in cubicles.

Show me 1 eastern european boxer who had get his WORLD TITLE shot after beating up an opponent who had lost 4 fights in row before fight vs a cotender and 2 from these via stoppage.
I can't find such beauty level for hated by you EE origin boxers.

While I love boxing from all my heart and soul, I hate both things: stupid fans with chips on shoulders like you and this business.
I more love stadium MT or Olympic wrestling as more really competitive fights there.
Despite I had gave maybe too much from my life to the ring sport and maybe even I had helped guys too much even for free to be judged by kids in their dreams with them having too big chips on shoulders just cos they are like you.

I do not value fighter regards his color or origin while kids like you with chip on shoulder and selfish attitude are sitting in forums with smart attitude how cool and smart you are.
    You are not smart.

Um, there is the anecdotal evidence. Just like how some are really fast and others not, it makes sense that some hit harder than most.
But yes, overall it´s technique. Give me any featherfist and I will easily point out the main technical flaws they have.

The ATG one punch KO types like Julian Jackson and Tommy Hearns etc. that is a gift from god, punching power can be developed with technique and experience but the ATG punchers are born with it.
