How come most of the fighters that come from the Philippines are southpaws?

    Yeah, when I was watching the fights drunk on Saturday, I was thinking:

    "Damn, what's with all these Filipinos being southpaws?"

    Even Flash Elorde was a southpaw.

    It's cause their in the southern hemisphere everything is backwards down there. Kind of like why the toilets in australia flush counter clockwsie

    Yeah! Does it mean that if you are an orthodox fighter in the PI there's a minimal chance to become a good fighter?:think

    Thats because of an early training habits.

    On the camps early morning the Filipino fighters stands in the window looking on the beautiful sunrise.
    Then their master ask them who you wanna be like in the future when you grow up ......
    they all rise up the LEFT hand and show in the direction of Mexico!:freddy

    good question. i've always asked that question to my filipino buddies, but they don't know either.

    Maybe because they are right handed, its easier to learn to throw a power punch then to control the fight with a jab... Thus, using the more mechanically enhanced hand to jab with. Example, Cotto, is really left handed but fights orthodox for this same reason.
