Cotto vs Rodriguez. Oct 5, 2013. Amway Center in Orlando. The tix are getting harder and harder to find.
i remember berto-against someboby in miami on hbo, less than a thousand people showed up. larry made a comment that someone's entourage is larger than the crowd.
anytime a fighter would start losing he would pull out a gun kill his opponent and claim self defense!!!
Miami has a very fickle sporting population -- they have had World Series champion baseball teams that played in front of half-full or less than half-full stadiums consistently. The rosters had plenty of Latino players, but nobody was interested, and with a population heavy with Cubans (where baseball is the national sport, moreso than boxing) you'd think it would be easy to get them to go to see baseball. It's counterintuitive, but Miami would not necessarily be a good place for a big title fight.
It was Berto vs Carlos Quintana, and close to fight date they gave away alot and people still didn't show. Very poorly marketed
Clay vs Liston took place in Miami and that was the biggest fix in boxing history. Even Rocky Marciano and Jack Dempsey had their doubts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuLWvYRpVR4
Promoters have tried to crack that market for years but many of the fans are far too fickle to lay a foundation there. There simply isn't the nationalism or passion for sports that you think would be there...but isn't. Edit: Sorry SaintPat, it looks like I basically photocopied your post.
Hmmm, you ever been in Miami??? Anyways, why focus on MIA?? Cotto vs Rodriguez- Oct. 5, ORLANDO,FL.. Not a very big fight and It could be soldout!:bbb
