According to Frank Warren, yes. I also think it happened more than once. I'm not sure when. Ask Frank.

So basically you are saying that the reason why JC never chose to come to the US and fight the other top middle weights is because he would rather stay and fight in infront of more people in his home town? Why not beata couple top fighters in the division on PPV and earn twice as much. Floyd 25 million for one fight. Thats worth it to me.

Joe is famous in Britian, he gets bigger crowds in britain than any boxer in America, he has earned enough money to live comfortably, his kids to live comfortably as well. Why would he go to ythe states to fight in a library style arena with 9000 fans to me shafted like Sturm V ODLH, Lennox v Holy etc etc?

Yeah that's what he's doing now. SMW is a largely European division. Hopkins skipped SMW to avoid Calzaghe and Roy Jones has said Calzaghe wasn't worth the risk at the money. It's hardly his fault.

Add to that the fact we have our own very healthy boxing scene and history of great fights and attendances...

Of course Frank Warren would say something like that. I don't Roy Ducked him or the other way around for that matter. I don't think B-Hop Ducked him either considering he agreed to fight Joe at 43 Yrs. old. Frank Warren Is Joe's promoter so of course he would say something like that.

there was not one single fighter in america 1997 though 2007 at 168 who brought more money to the table than clazaghe could earn in europe.

    simple as that.

there was not a single fighter from 154 through to 160 from 1997 to 2007 who moved up to 168 and was worth or did anything.

a few canadians/a few europeans/ calzaghe definatly should have fought and no excuses team calzaghe went for easier options.

there can be a case made for calzaghe giving up his money /moving up in weight and trting to get a number 1 ranking at light heavy and then wait for a mandatory shot v jones .

if he beat jones he would have made lots of money
if he lost to jones he would have wastd 2 to 3 years and passed on a lot of money.

IMO jones would not have made a calzaghe fight as a voluntary defense 1997 to 2003

Hopkins skipped the SMW division to avoid Calzaghe? They are about to fight in April I don't think I would call that avoiding him.

I don't think they ducked him either. And the reason why he would come to the states and fight is the same reason he is now. to try and seal his legacy. If he would have retired after kessler He couldn't have been considered a all time great because of his lack of quality opponents. Thats why he is still fighting now. Thats why i give him credit for doing so even at 35

If the fight didn't come to fruitation then yeah you can make a case for him "ducking" Calzaghe I guess but the fact that this fight is about to take place it really shouldn't be an issue then.

It should have happened 5 years ago is the point. Now hopkins has an excuse (being old)
