How come short fighters no longer use the bob and weave?

I once asked Max Kellerman on his radio show what he thinks of Pacquaio's reflexes and he said Pacquiao got 'shocking speed and reflexes'. So do Floyd. So both these guys can technically implement the bob and weave if they started at a young age? I think that if Pacquaio had used the bob and weave he would KNOCK OUT Paul Williams. That style is a nightmare for tall fighters.
Tyson was 5'10 and he knocked out guys who was 6'3-6'8 because of his bob and weave tactics.

The only guy who utilized anything resembling that style of defense was Jesus Chavez; and he got torn apart with uppercuts for his trouble.

I think it's difficult to ask a fighter who is used to defending a certain way to try and use a different style of defense in the middle of their career (ask Andre Berto); so it might be unrealistic to expect someone like JMM to use that approach to defending against someone like Floyd were they to rematch.

That said, I'd like to see how a young prospect who uses that style of defense would fare throughout the course of his career. Would make for interesting viewing, at any rate.

The thing with Pacquiao and other fighter in general was that they started at a division where they are even or taller heightwise with their opponents. They have been molded to fight at a certain style. It would be detrimental for them to swtch styles midway their careers once they move up.

The bob and weave style is just not as effective as other styles of fighting. If it were, we would see more fighters implementing it PERIOD. There is plenty of tape and still many people who know how to teach such a style. It's a risky style that has proven to be far less effective against superior defensive tactics of the modern era.

One reason is gloves are bigger these days, so there is more blocking than head movement these days both K-bros do it even though their real tall, Antonio Tarver, Manyy does it. Some stil do bob.

What about a fighter like Gavin Rees? He's like 5 feet tall and everyone in his division is much taller. Will the bob and weave style be great for him? Could he have knocked out Broner?

Why did you think Jesus Chavez failed where Tyson succeeded? Is it because Tyson was just more of a bob and weaver type of fighter? Or chavez just didn't have the athleticism to pull it off?

Why the hell did they make gloves bigger?

Ok but say Pacquaio started at Middleweight where he will be 6 inches or more shorter than a lot of the top 10? Could the bob and weave be successfully implemented then?

Probability is high, also providing it's the right trainer that handles him as well.

So someone like Cus Amato? Not Freddy Roach?

I was just watching the Tyson-Berbick fight. He went so low to the ground his lips was touching the ground. I think that kind of fighting is great against tall fighters. Why couldn't Pacquaio do that against Margarito? Margarito is a slower version of Trevor Berbick. Maybe Pac could have knocked him out.

Ahh. Do you think that it takes a certain type of athlete to fight in a bob and weave style? Or anybody can learn it? Did you see the Tyson-Berbick and Tyson Spinks fights? Tyson was at his peak and I think no hw could beat him.
