How come Sugar Ray Leonard didn't force Hagler into a catchweight?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Wladimirschin, May 31, 2013.

  1. I'm serious. Leonard had a lot more reasons for forcing Hagler down to say 157.

Who's more scary? 160 Hagler or 154 Canelo?

    More reasons?

SRL is taller and had a longer reach than Hagler.

Is Floyd also dictating ring size and everything else to like Ray did?

All Floyd wanted was a catchweight. Not everything under the moon like that ****in ***** Ray Leonard did.

Floyd also didn't wait till Canelo told him he didn't think he could fight anymore before deciding to fight him.

  3. :rofl:rofl:nut:nut.

Leonard will **** Floyd's ******* so hard.. Ellerbe will commit suicide,.

    The better question is

Why did SRL wait until Hagler wore out (After Mugabi/Hearns)?

After the Mugabi fight SRL said "I can beat him NOW"

You must have alot of confidence in Ray, considering he's nearly 60 years old.

That is true, but his frame is obviously smaller than Canelo's.

SRL was able to fight above 160 and do it without looking fat.

I think Floyd would have a rather tough time with that type of weight gain.

Actually, I just checked and they are listed as the same height, and Floyd has only a one inch reach advantage.

Floyd has been at WW for 8 years and didn't look fat against Cotto.

  9. Floyd a G I respect that. But isn't Canelo a lot worst than Hagler?

Maybe that had something to do with the fact that he'd been retired for three years which was still an advantage for Hagler.

Just a thought.I can't think of many guys who came back from three years inactivity to take such a challenging first fight.

Canelo weighed 172 on fight night for the Trout fight.

He was a LHW on fight night.

He is alot less skilled, but he is gonna have a serious sized advantage that none of Floyd's opponants have ever had.

Thank you. People are making this out to be something it's not. Canelo is a decent young champion at 154lbs. Floyd has been at WW for 8 years and has fought at 154lbs twice. People who think this is anything close to Leonard/Hagler are insane.

He had been secretly sparring for a good while before that getting ready for the fight before Hagler even knew he had any intention of doing it.

Ray could've came back earlier, but he wanted to fight the worst Hagler he could fight, and that is what he got.
