How come the IBO never became a major recognised belt?

Phil Austin used to let Danny Green defend the IBO cruiserweight belt at catch weights of 185 pounds.

Turki is trying(succeeded?) to make the ring belt the 5th belt and I don’t think the IBO would get the same treatment.

I only liked it because Manny and Ricky fought for it.

    and wasn’t that at a time cruiser rate 190? I don’t think that’s much of a scandal.

The Ring got that because its a proxy for the lineal title which is something that was already accepted. The Ring champion is almost always someone elses champion. They don't name their own champion though corrupt Turki is chomping on the bit to change that.

Oscar and Hamed did a lot for the WBO. Also, I thought the IBO tried to tie itself to the IBF to gain recognition at some point?

Oversaturation. No room at the table. Fans have been mad about the fracturing of "world championships" for decades (and the corruption and further interim/regular etc dilution of the oldest among them hasn't helped) and the WBO was already pushing it as it is.

Even if IBO's system was perfect and everybody agreed with their rankings more than any of the big 4's, and they had the "best" titlist in each division - they're never going to gain legitimacy unless one of the other orgs folds. There's simply no way we fans are going to tolerate a big 5 - that's moving in the wrong direction. We want re-consolidation.

It is absurdly difficult for a belt to be recognized as a championship belt. It’s impressive the IBO has come as far as it has
