How come there are no death fights in the list of most exciting title fights of all time?

Ramos-Moore, Mancini-Kim, Pintor-Owen were all spectacular, electrifying fights. Griffith-Paret III is probably one of the greatest fights of all time. However, all four of these title fights, as awesome as they are they are not ranked in the 100 most exciting title fights of all time. They are not in the 100 greatest fights of all time. Why not? They are definitely worthy of it. Are they purposefully not listed out of respect because it sounds bad to say that a death fight is one of the greatest of all time?

Probably. I personally can't enjoy them knowing what happened.

All great fights but I struggle to watch them because of the fate of the loser. I think it’s the same with most folks. Same for Benn-McClellan for me.

Having read books on Johnny Owen, watched documentaries and such I find that one particularly hard.

It's a double-edged sword. Part of me wants to honor the fallen by at least watching and acknowledging their unintended sacrifice. The other part of me wants to honor them by not bringing it up so casually.

When I tend to watch the fight, I don't watch the KO. Quiroga vs Anifowoshi is particularly hard to watch, which is a shame for such a great fight. Although it kind of makes me think that there entire careers shouldn't be watched if we're doing them the honour of not watching their 'demise'/downfall.

It makes sense to me not wanting to watch death fights, but I tend to watch Griffith-Paret III or Mancini-Kim, and tell myself: "Griffith and Mancini absorbed a ton of punishment, it could have been them too."

I've never seen this list of the 100 most exciting fights that they were excluded from.

I think the saddest part of these fights is that by their very nature they have to be entertaining. Think about it, very few fighters have been permanently damaged from cat and mouse, technical chess matches. The amount of clean punching it'd take to deal such severe brain damage is pretty high, and that's usually why they end up as awesome fights.

Boxing is a morbid sport. Although I don't know what anyone would expect from what's essentially organised violence.

The documentary in which Dick Owens goes to Mexico to meet Lupe Pintor with Pintor coming to Merthyr to unveil Johnny's statue is hugely uplififting.

It does make sense. Fighters almost always die in the do-or-die, down-and-out slugfests between one or both fighters who are both huge-risk takers and it just all depends on who prevails.

Probably an unconscious desire to avoid rehashing the deaths.

Shared guilt, man, guilt for enjoying such a brutal spectacle.

    That's what I originally thought.
