this fight was a possible since there primes were around the same time

leonard v curry comes up every week

i give the 1984-85 curry a great chance against the 1980-81 welterweight hearns based on hearns struggles with weight. if curry nails him with the left hook like leonard did it my god

but 1982-84 Hearns at JM beats any version of curry

It's because no one wonders what would have happened between Hearns and Curry. Hearns would have killed him.

    Hearns by sparkage.

Curry was a fluid boxer but more of a one-shot sniper at times........he was not exactly hard to hit and no matter how good he was, Hearns blasts him out. Curry would find someone with equal/better handspeed in front of him who wasn't gonna' wait for his moment to take him out. He would go for it straight away and I think Curry would be stopped soon after.

Hearns is one of the best examples of a head to head monster there is. He simply has too much going for him physically and technically for 99.9% of fighters from WW to JMW, Curry being no exception. Hearns just has every advantage in this matchup.

Curry would do well to last 6 rounds. Hearns was a hell of a fast starter, usually. His power and jab, etc, too much for the Lone Star Cobra.

I'd give Curry maybe a 1 in 20 chance of "McCrorying" Hearns. But on the whole, I think Tommy's speed, length and jab would present issues Curry never faced before. I think Curry was a great fighter in his short prime and I don't think he'd go easy but I think he'd go in about 11 rounds.

I give Curry about a 30% chance. That said the way McCallum faked him to body then sparked him with left hook, I could see Tommy like against Duran jabbing downstairs then clapping him with the right hand and it being goodnight.

I think the ring announcer for the winner of this thread should do it like this,

'YOUR WINNER, AND STILL THE MOST OVERRATED BOXER ON EAST SIDE BOXING'S CLASSIC FORUM, THOMAS 'THE HITMAN' HEARNS'

Nar i'm not picking Curry, but come on lets take a trip down memory lane, i've always felt the comments made here about Hearns are over the top, and when i saw the apparent percentage figures above i had to speak out.

Sorry, i know you didn't say 99.9% of great welters and middles Pea, so i suppose i might agree, but is just where the emphasis is and what the implications seem to be that get me sometimes with Hearns on here.

He'd have been right if Hearns didn't have fragile punch resistance. I don't think he had a glass jaw, only hard hitters knocked him out, but Curry could whack at 147lb. He had the skills to land and the power to stop the fight, although I'd pick Hearns 8/10.
