How come there wasn't a Whitaker/Chavez rematch?

It's not just that he hit harder. He landed the more damaging blows throughout, put Taylor in hospital and, let's not forget, won the fight. Taylor looked tremendous over the first 8 rounds but how anyone can look at the fight on the whole and say Chavez was schooled is beyond me.

And Frazier went to the hospital after Ali vs Frazier 1.

    Big deal.

Except no-one is saying Ali schooled Frazier in that fight.

My point is, a guy who has schooled his opponent doesn't usually end up in hospital, beaten-up, with an L on his record.

    They don't usually... I agree.

But there are instances where the dude was willing to pay the price to get the win.

And if a guy pays the price and walks through hell to get a victory, he has my respect. But I can't say that, in those circumstances, he's schooled his opponent.

I believe he won almost every round, considering it's boxing and not a tough man competition.

I don't recall there being any real demand for a rematch. It was widely acatpted and correctly so at the time that Whitaker was robed of the win by the judges. There was no reason to think that a rematch would have proudced a diffrent result besides diffrent scoring.

He took a hammering over the last few rounds - he also took the heavier blows in a lot of the round he was winning.

Winning most of the rounds doesn't equal a schooling. He fought great but he lost and got beat up in the process.

Whitaker wanted a rematch but JCC wasn't interested and we all know why.

Apart from the poor decision, it wasn't a fight that really warranted a rematch. Everyone excepted Whitaker won clearly and moved him. Chavez was a great fighter, but he was just made to order for Pernell, who had the ability to neutralize offensive beasts.

The fact it wasn't an 'L' on Whitaker's record also cussioned the robbery slightly.
