If by robbed, you mean getting robbed out of his prime by getting a severe beating, getting fractured cheekbones, broken ribs and urinating blood for several days by the hands of Julio, then you are right.

No, I mean robbed as in outboxing a hard punching overrated boxer and having the ref decide that the previous 35 minutes and 50 seconds of the fight meant nothing.

He was slugging it out with Julio and payed dearly for it. Even if he had been given the decision he would of still lost the war, the damage was already done. He got a chance at revenge and got KTFO. Call Chavez overrated all you want, the fact remains he BEAT Taylor, he beat the prime out of him, and took his belt. Get it over it, my friend. And while the rest of the fight Taylor might have been winning, he was taking a beating in the process, so dont act like Julio wasnt doing anything the rest of that fight.

    Julio TKO12 Taylor

    :hi:

From what I remember of Chavez speaking right after the Whitaker fight, the goal during training camp was to come in a little bit heavier than he did, but getting his body in peak cardio condition did'nt allow it.

People have to remember that Chavez did'nt have an Alex Ariza in his camp to work wonders with putting on lean mass and not have it hinder his boxing ability.

From what I remember Chavez speaking about a possible rematch, he said it was up to Don King, and that if the fans wanted to see it again, it would preferably take place at 140 lbs.

Knowing that Whitaker was a fighter that win or lose against most would not look good against, and he did'nt have a fan crowd pleasing type of style, Don King I'm sure was'nt in any hurry to have a rematch take place right away.

The rematch imo would have taken place had it not been for Chavez' loss to Randall......and it likely would have happened at 140 lbs.

Whatever stills your beating heart. I know a robbery when I see one. Boxing is full of them.

Absolutely was. Even with your attempt to condescend with a 12 year old girl's idea of googley eyed humor.

this thread shouldn't have turned into Meldrick/Chavez

I don't know the factual reasons why there wasn't a rematch, but I'm damn sure Sweet Pea would've won (again)

    And dont forget TKO 8.

I cant believe LukeO is such a ***** he calls Chavez overrated. If anything he is always underrated as a face first brawler.

Chavez was just about the perfect pressure fighter. His 'presence' in the ring and ability to cut it off was ridiculous.

His people wanted nothing to do with Whitaker ever again though, and who can blame them.

Chavez did his thing and got lucky. He was lucky Taylor didn't respond as well as Steele not being aware of the time. Taylor seemed to be thinking, dam I'm tired, how much time is left in his own head and not responding to richard steele.

Just played out in a very wierd way. Chavez just the BIG break.

As for why he didn't fight Sweet Pea again, you know dam well why he didn't fight him again. JCC looked like a dam bum in there and if it was in any place but Texas, JCC would have lost (Can't beat a mexican in Texas). JCC and his camp were embarrassed after that fight. One of the worst, non-scoring criteria robberies of all time. No way JCC got a draw.

I didn't like JCC at all after the Taylor fight and especially after the Whitiker fight. I've grown to like him after he retired but I loved seeing the beatings he took after the Whitiker fight.
