How come today's fighters don't develope an educated uppercut?

During the golden age of boxing, every fighters from Lightweights to heavyweights knew how to throw an effective uppercut and they used them frequently. The uppercut is the most difficult punch to master and one can get countered easily.

Are the fighters of today not skilled enough to throw an uppercut or is it because they don't want to take the chance?

Thats a good question. Some fighters try to throw it, but they fail miserably. Floyd's counter right uppercut is complete ****, Zab Judah's left uppercut has never hit anyone and he always gets hit when he throws it, James Toney and Bernard Hopkins try to throw uppercuts on the inside sometimes, but they always result in them getting beaten badly.

This one time Hopkins actually was throwing left uppercuts at Tito Trinidad, hoping that Tito would try to counter with a left hook, but then Hopkins in turn could counter that with a big right.. but it backfired on him and Trinidad knocked Hopkins out.

    Let me think, who else...

Oh yeah, Lennox Lewis used to try to throw right uppercuts, but I don't think he ever landed one of them.

Its very sad, nobody throws them anymore. Not ever.

Tell that to Michael Grant. In the second round of their fight. Lewis grabbed Grant by the back of head with his left hand and unleashed a brutal uppercut with his right. That punch most definately landed, and sent Grant to the canvas. I know you're being facetious in your post, but I always like telling about that punch.

Yeah sorry, that was probably a bit much.

Oh wait, I forgot about about the fight with um, James Toney and Adolpho Washington where Toney missed Washington with a triple right uppercut on the inside, it was brilliant.

Er by missed I mean hit.

Great question. You would think a boxer with a great uppercut will clean his division out today because no one would expect to get hit by it.
