How come Tyson Fury and David Haye struggled to do AJ level PPV's?

    Its very surprising because the guy is extremely entertaining outside the ring and is probably the best trash talker out of all of them. No one can sell a fight better than him. He is also a very skilled talented heavy weight.

    Even David Haye, very well spoken, charismatic, master salesman and very pleasing to listen to.

    I am just a bit surprised how these two guys who are definately not boring struggled to do AJ level PPV's while AJ does the numbers he does being so boring, fake and even getting embarrassed by a fatty?

    It's to do with popularity.

    If that could be understood, every fighter would do huge PPV buys. Like all other zeitgeist PPV stars, Joshua has tapped in to the wider public consciousness. Right place right time.

    But thats my question. AJ is just not entertaining outside the ring, even his last few fights atleast since the Klisthko fight have not been entertaining.

    Fury and Haye in press conferences and interviews are as entertaining as they come and they can make Eskimos buy ice cream. The Boxing Business is bizzare

    Yeah, you said it, it is bizarre. Liston would have been hugely popular in the 90s but he was hugely unpopular in his own time. Similarly, Tyson would have been in jail in the 50s but was the most well known man walking the planet in the 90s. Ali, huge in his era because the world was ready for him, wouldn't have got a title shot in the 1910s. Louis, enormously popular in the WWII era, would have been Wilder, probably, in this era.


    Joshua is the current answer to the question, what does the British public want from boxing in the 2010s?

    Fury talks a lot but his fights are ultra boring that's why he can't sell. Haye actually brought pretty decent PPV numbers in the UK.

    Because haye and fury talk absolute bollocks and boast about being better than they are.

    Joshua looked the part and was KOing everyone viciously. He stepped up rapidly and his record is undeniable.

    Worth mentioning that Joshua got GB's final gold medal at London 2012 which meant he was famous before he even had a pro bout. And then it all grew from there.

    Handsome man, ripped bod, was knocking out everyone left and right, careful media presentation, and was carefully matched appropriately against "the best of the rest" without fighting Wilder (and later Fury) so the fanbase could (accurately) point to his deeper resume in terms of quality opposition.

    Winning a gold medal in the Olympics is a HUGE boost. Worked w/ Khan as well.

    Didn’t stop Mayweather from selling well. This is why Fury did WWE, to gain more exposure.

    AJ is an anomaly

    The kind of guy that gets middle aged women who’ve never seen a fight tuning into boxing on PPV

    Whatever ‘it’ is AJ has it in abundance and while I’m not an AJ fan as such he’s great for British boxing and boxing in general so I’ll back him until he fights Whyte or Usyk

    Fury does not have a crowd pleasing style.

    David Haye did not pick the best opponents when he was a heavyweight.
