How come Wilder isn't improving?

His body is great for boxing. Every body type can fight and has advantages and disadvantages. Most tall, lanky guys can punch yet lose coordination, balance and speed.

Wilder is like a incorrectly set up machine, but a machine that still outperforms those machines that are supposed to be more capable and able, so if it not broken then why would he change things.

Our sports history has had its fair share of excellently schooled technical boxers who's skill set was perfect, but many of those had losses on their records, Wilder for all his supposed deficits does not have a loss on his pro record.

Yes. That's why he knocked out Ortiz with one, picture perfect right hand in seven ... instead of clubbing him to death and scoring three knockdowns in 10 rounds.

The two right hands Wilder threw to end both of his title defenses this year were beautiful.

If anything, he's becoming a more efficient and lethal puncher.

It only takes him one shot now, instead of a flurry of them.

Doesn't really need to. At least, he thinks he doesn't and results keep reinforcing that belief.

These last 3 fights, especially last 2 have shown his improved power. Before he used to hurt his opponents and then finish them off with windmills. Now it's 1 punch lights out. There's never been anyone like him in boxing history before.

Why do people keep saying this? Yes there has.
When it comes to his power, what exactly are you comparing it to? He has phenomenal power, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

    I'm assuming the below:

    1. His devastation KO's - which will forever have a question mark so long as those are scored against B- heavies
    2. The fact that he doesn't need to win rounds to win, he just needs a KO - again, put him in with a fast HW that has a high punch output. Let's see how those massive bombs go. He will struggle to set them up, as that is where he has to leverage the power from.
    3. Only 1 man has gone the distance - And that one man beat him, he just failed to beat the home town judges.

When Wilder finally stepped up against Fury, he was hurt himself. He struggled to find the target. He hit Fury with a great shot, but he got back up and ended up dominating the rest of the round. This is the same Fury that has knocked down in similar fashion by a cruiserweight.

When have we seen Wilder fight against a live opponent who has a high punch output and has a chin? Never.

Ortiz is the best case when reviewing his resume in that light, but Ortiz still doesn't provide any evidence that Wilder can beat the top 5 of the division. He is a very slow plodder that occasionally bounces on his toes. His come forward style is tailor made for Wilder as he has a low punch output, telegraphed punches and often loops with his shots. When have you seen Wilder vs someone who shoots fast and straight? Remember that fight with Washington? That C level HW? He threw a number of slow, but straight shots down the pipe. Some of which really troubled Wilder.

What are Ortiz best wins? Claim he was the boogeyman all you like, but that is fictional nonsense. There are multiple HWs that can and will beat Ortiz.

We haven't seen the best of Wilder, as we truely haven't seen him tested yet.
We got a glimpse against Fury, and the majority of the boxing community saw that fight for what it was, a boxing lesson from a feather fisted fighter after a very, very long layout - followed by a gift draw to keep Wilder at the top of the division.

The undercurrents of how a guy can be worse when stopping a person sooner than he did in the first fight, is over your head. Its ok.

Yes and so has his delivery. He has shortened up that right hand so it now resembles a well executed punch. He has a good 1-2 combo.

He doesn’t have to. Why change what has already made you

By the time someone cracks the code and sparks him out early he will retire like Prince Hamed. Dude is already what... 34 years old? Old dog, new tricks etc etc.

Because he feels he doesn't need to. If it is working why mess with it? Also, he isn't just plodding. He is studying the opponent's every reaction to his threats and planning accordingly. Then he puts the plan into effect and wins by KO.

It's a common occurrence with power punchers. They fall in love with their power and negate everything else. It's the down fall of many top power punchers because they become so one dimensional that you just need one blue print to beat them.

But until that blue print is created and executed they will continue to triumph.

It looked horrible for 7 rounds. His distance timing was completely off. And he went back in straight lines.
