Surley he should loose the title, and should have to face Witter to win it back?

You completely misunderstand how they run their championship policy.

On the criteria that Hatton moved up in weight to 47 to fight PBF he should have rightfully according to "Ring" rules lost his "Ring" title at 140.

A fighter can only loose the "Ring" title when they move up in weight, retire, or loose`s a bout. What they don't provision for is how long a champion has before he makes a defense.Since winning the title from Kostya 2 years ago Hatton has NOT faced the number or 3 in his division and thus on that premise alone i believe should not hold that title.

if the ring started stripping titles for mandatories then it would become just another alphabet title.

until there is 1 sanctioning body, the ring will never be able to enforce mandatories.

Moved up in weight for fight with Floyd, hence he cant lose Ring Junior Welterweight Title.

If Hatton had said that he could not make 140 anymore and would only fight at 147 from now on, he would have de facto relinquished his title. But since it's pretty obvious that he will fight again at 140 and that a champ can only lose his title in the ring, he's still the champ.

"The only three occasions when a fighter will lose his championship status are when he retires, moves to another weight division, or is defeated in a championship bout" - I should mention that I interpret "moving to another division" as moving, winning and/or keep on fighting there, and that "defeated in a championship bout" refers to the Ring Championship at 140 pounds and not the 147 pounds' Championship.

Yeh its a bit stupid, the fighter should have to defend agaisnt the number 1,2 or 3 at that weight once in a year to keep the Belt.

Hatton and Casamayor would have lost the belt and Haye, Hopkins, Calzaghe, Pavlik, Mayweather, Vasquez would have the titles, those are the guys that deserve them as they have beat the best in there division recently.

Even the biggest Hatton fans can't say that!

Negative. The rules state that a champion can loose his title "if he moves up in weight". Hatton did this vs Floyd did he not? So surely the "ring" should strip him.Or are we meant to interperet the rule to mean something else.

Also note even alphabet titles have a rule on how many times a title must be defended in order to keep it.If Hatton still holds the "Ring" belt in say 3 years time and has only beaten cab drivers, and guys in OTHER divisions along the way does he still get recognition as being the best at his weight?

Ok queue the excuses from the Hatton fans.Ready STEADY .... GO!

Forget about it.Thats a pipe dream. It wont happen. The big 3 or 4 are hear to stay. As for enforcing mandatories that is HIGHLY important. If the number 2 works his way into contention then by default he SHOULD get his shot.Thats how its always been thats how it always will be.

The "Ring" are better than the alphabets though because at least its the best 2 guys in each division facing each other and not some guy thats won an interim title, an inter continental title or has just magically risen in the rankings. They have nothing financially to gain from it. Other than clarity as to who is the REAL champ at each weight.

    Fair enough then.
I aint a Hatton fan at all, i think because he stated he was moving back down, hence the reason why Ring Magazine decided not to strip him.
If he fights Junior Witter or Paulie Malignaggi next, i wont complain.:deal

**SIGH** Why does everything have to be a war on here? The Ring will strip a fighter if he remains in a division not if he moves up & loses. They dont want to discourage fighters taking on challenges.

No doubt some childish moron will call me a Hatton "nuthugger" or the like but these are the facts.

    You Hatton Nutthugger LOL.

He will probs fight Mallignaggi and then avoid Witter for the next 2 years and say he was the best.
