Good post, following the money... The promoter/network/governing body has no real interest in protecting a fighter (by buying fixed fights), that interest is of the boxer himself or a very closely related manager (who is willing to lose $ if needed fixing fights). Its very rare to find fixed fights in modern boxing, opposed to the gambling era. Placing bets was much profitable & losses were more forgivable so a great boxer taking a dive can still be an ATG, in modern times a boxer losing is no longer easily forgivable by the average peasant. So the price of a fixed fight will be prohibitively expensive
i totally messed that post up. lol.... i dont even really wanna explain. but here it goes. some how i put ggg vs canelo... i ment canelo vs chavez jr. i kno i dont kno how i messed that up. but canelo vs chavez was just a big mexican pay day. it was just a tune up for the ggg fight . they wanted to make sure canelo can handle being in there with a bigger guy, and to go 12 rounds. it was practice they got paid for a sparring session. but the canelo vs ggg that one judge i would say was prolly paid off but u never know.
Very common in poorer countries , new a English guy that was boxing in Thailand and the promoter told him the Thai opponent would throw the fight as long as he got paid a few thousand baht for it ! about 60 or 70 pounds lol
On top of my head, just the latest ones: - In the UK, Sam Sexton has thrown many fights: Lucas Brown purposely threw his fight vs Whyte by not getting into shape - In the USA, Baby Miller is a fraud for just about everyone of his fights - In Australia, i believe Pac let Horn survive just enough to lose a controversial decision - And of course, GGG let Canelo survive by playing the slugger role (which he's not: he's a boxer-puncher) but not going to the body, which he normally does even in his sleep and twice on sundays
