It is not a matter of judging .. it is the denied opportunity to even get a bout .. however in an eliminator the Johnson - Hart fight clearly comes to mind ..

There is little in history for any people to be proud of. We are a barbaric species.

No, I think you're the one that's doing that by referring to professional boxing's injustices as almost something isolated in the past.
To put an asterisk against an era (denoting injustice/corruption) might imply that all other eras are acceptably "clean".

Since not a soul in this forum were around in those days it is entirely up to interpretation. No definitive answer can be concluded as we don't know all the circumstances surrounding some of these theories.

All very interesting, but absolutely nothing to do with the thread title, which asks whether racism was used by people in " authority " ( judges, and refs ) in a racist society ( which America was in the early 1900's.)

I am clearly saying there was a very good chance of that being the case.

If people choose, or choose NOT to give instances of close fights between races being given to the black guy by white refs / judges then fine, either way.

I've read it cover to cover and to me it clearly reads as racist .. there are specific quotes that said if Johnson were not black he would have gotten the decision for out punching and out fighting Hart cleanly and decisively .. I think for you to say it was not racist at all is absurd.
