How could anyone NOT consider Roy Jones Jr to be the P4P GOAT?

You would have to be mad to not know for certain he is the greatest Ever p4p.

    I mean he was untouchable.

Sugar Ray had nothing on him, nothing! No way he was better.

Roy had superior genes, was too fast too powerful, and skillful enough to utilize those gifts in a way where he wasnt ever even challenged in his prime not even by someone as good as Hopkins or James Toney.

I respect the opinion, but who did he beat to warrant best p4p ever? It has to be backed up by facts not just saying Roy is the greatest. I don't think his resume is best p4p ever. The best guys he fought Hopkins,Toney,Hill,McCallum.

Hopkins and Toney are Hall of Famers

Virgil Hill and McCallum are Hall of Famers.

Not to mention great wins against guys like Reggie Johnson, Tarver, Montell Griffin, and John Ruiz

    4 weight world champion.

First man to go from 154 to being HW champ.

    He has a tremendous resume.

It is a great resume, but does those names give him an edge over everyone who has ever fought? And he won his first title at 160.. so 160 to heavyweight and he beat John Ruiz.. Not Lennox. He is great no doubt. I question the p4p best ever. Just to name one Sugar Ray Leonard easily beats him out on his wins. His best wins are James Toney and VIrgil Hill. And yeah they were good and he made them look ordinary. Mike was older so I dismiss it a little and Roy let him go by not stopping him late, and Hopkins a good win before Hopkins was tops.

He started his career at 154 lbs after competing in the Olympics at 151 lbs.

Leonard didn't have the longevity of dominance. Ray clearly has the better wins and is a much more iconic figure, but Roy was dominant at every weight he fought. Undisputed at 175 and lost maybe 10 rounds tops his entire reign.

Jones is up there though I can see why some wouldn't consider him #1. In certain skill categories, Jones is easily a lock for top few of all time P4P. Like hand speed, footwork/mobility, two-handed power and accuracy, etc.

    Just look at this ****:

Can you imagine if the old time nutbags had anything like this in black and white?

    Easily

    His resume dosn't justify him being p4p No1, or p4p No20.

I always enjoy watching mw-lhw roy, but

    1. the ruiz fight was ****, ruiz wasn't champ, and he definatley fought the fight roy would have wanted him to.

    2. highly suspected career drugs user

    3. weak matchmaking in prime

    4. ko'd as soon as speed dropped, didn't happen to ali, pep, leonard ect

If that film was in black and white, people would pick him to beat both Klitschkos at the same time. They'd find some way to build up Richard Hall as a HoF KO artist. When people don't have film of you, it's easy to prop you up.

He has one of the weakest resumes of a supposed all time great ever.

The only win on his resume worth any kind of note was Toney.

Hopkins was green and fighting his first big fight. McCallum was ancient and fighting 21 pounds above his best weight.

Virgil Hill was not a great despite being in the Hall of Fame and he was coming off a year long layoff and loss to fight Jones.

He never gave Hopkins or Toney a rematch when it mattered. When he finally did give Hopkins a rematch he got a beating.

He cherry picked his entire career and refused to meet anyone that was even remotely threatening.

If Sugar Ray Robinson had picked up all of his titles, and defended them all, by fighting full time garbage men we wouldnt be calling him a great fighter either.

People often wonder why boxing has gone from being the national past time to a niche "sport." Roy Jones and "fighters" like him are a major reason why. Its not really a "sport" when you only fight people you know your (and lots of other guys) can beat before you even sign the contract, then get paid millions, and thump your chest like you just toppled King Kong.

How can anyone claim he was even remotely dominant in any division he fought in? He never cleaned out or dominated a single division. This is often said about the light heavyweight division but Jones entered that division while there was a standing undefeated, undisputed light heavyweight champion (Dariusz) and never faced him. In fact he did everything he could not to face him including demanding that Larry Merchant not mention Dariusz on air when Jones fought on HBO. Jones was handed every single one of those light heavyweight titles and never fought a single standing champion for any of them. Thats not dominance, thats marketing to a fighter who has a fat HBO contract which generates more sanctioning fees.

Jones wasn't KO'd because his speed dropped. He did lose his legs after the Ruiz fight but he still had plenty of speed in Tarver 2. That knockout messed him mentally to the point that he couldn't execute his style. You can't fight the Roy Jones style if you're fighting scared.

Actually, Bob Fitzsimmons was the first to go from MW to HW.
