If Floyd loses to Cotto, does it damage his legacy or will it be undiminished as he is going up to 154?

It will definitely take a hit, the only question is "how big?" For his haters, they will say he lost his best challenge north of lightweight. It will be proof as to why he never fought the prime Cotto/Moseley/Pac, etc.

His supporters will say it is one loss to an established HOF fighter well after his prime.

The truth is in the middle. He still walks into the Hall of Fame five years after he hangs up the gloves.

He's 35 so you know, most reasonably minded people would account for that.

it won't take a hit at all. anything he did after moving out of 130 is a bonus. he's already the greatest fighter ever at SFW, a loss to Cotto won't change that.

I really don't believe Floyd is so worried about retiring undefeated as much as when he was retiring and coming back. Back then, when he won against Oscar and everybody was after him to beat him and put themselves on Floyd's level, I believe Floyd tried to avoid this particular guy or that one, But once he was winning difficult fights against undefeated opponents such as Hatton but specially after winnning a shutout against JMM and Shane Mosley, he's really not interested as much whether if he loses a decision or not. He already got to that level where he can fight anybody in specific situations such as Cotto at 154 pounds which was unthinkable when he retired after beating Hatton and Cotto beat Shane. All this works if he doesn't lose a wide decision to Pacquiao, he definitely wants to win that one even if it is the JLC SD style but not be considered a second best for the hereafter.

It would damage his career. Even if he lose to Monte Barrett at heavyweight it would still damage his career.

It would boost Cotto's Legacy, Pacquiaos Legacy, and won't Damage May's at all if anything if it was competitive it would maybe benefit him especially if he goes on to fight Pac/Martinez.... finish off With Canelo-Berto/Ortiz winner.

It'll be a far bigger hit to his ego and psyche, which he'll recover from.

He's been a certified ATG for some time now.
