Banning it isn't exactly the most logical solution. Ban it, and it goes underground. Injury and death rates will shoot up

Pro Bodybuilding is the most dangerous sport. Those guys can't even run and actually refuse to do proper cardio in fear of losing muscles. Pretty sad really.

Couldn't even be close. It doesn't have 1/100th as many participants as soccer. The sheer number of players and frequency of games ensures that more kids get crushed by moveable goal posts. Then there are concussion deaths sustained by falls, collisions with other players, soccer balls. Heat stroke, heart attack, asthma will wrack up some numbers too.

Also, you know how many people die in swimming pools each year? You're basically immersing yourself in a deadly weapon to play the sport. Cheer leading has so many deaths and spinal injuries from tossing people into the air. So does gymnastics. Think about all the times you hurt yourself falling off a bike or skiing, going way faster than the human body is made for. And skateboarding is worse than that, probably because of all the ramps and tricks they do.

Boxing is going to be the most dangerous thing you can do mano a mano but there are more dangerous things in nature than man. Gravity, water, large animals, high speeds, and long falls can be worse for you than a little punch in the face.

It's a brutal sport, the intention is to deliberately hurt your opponent and to hopefully give them a bad concussion.

Many people (women in particular) refuse to watch it especially for this reason.

There are quite a few boxers whose mothers and wives do not watch them on fight night.

I doubt it will ever be banned. Humans will always fight and it'll probably outlast the likes of soccer, basketball, NFL, rugby etc.

the difference between combat sports and other sports(regarding to deaths and serious injuries) is that in the combat sports you deliberately hurt your opponent vs accidents in other sports.

the funny thing is that if you beat someone to death on the street you go to jail for a long time. if you do it in the ring, you are welcomed to do it tomorrow.

    Skiing
    Gymnastics
    Professional body building
    Cave diving
    Scuba diving
    Bull fighting
    Cycling
    Motorsports especially motorbikes
    Running

All of the above according to certain sources result in more injuries and deaths than boxing.

Boxing is nowhere near as dangerous as people think and the medical care and attention is better than many other sports.

Saying x sport is more dangerous than boxing isn't an argument that the level of safety in boxing is ok. One death is one too many and all sports should constantly look at how safety can be improved. When you quote statistics you need to consider how dangerous it is PER CAPITA. A Saturday night boxing card will feature 10-20 fighters, while a Saturday afternoon of the rugby premiership in the UK will feature 180 players (12 teams, 15 players per team, not including substitutes) so by numbers alone rugby will feature more serious injuries.

I do not want to see boxing banned but it is a sport stuck in the dark ages in many ways. Why for example are fighters only allowed water between rounds? Every other sport uses sports drinks to keep athletes better hydrated.

    In terms of deaths? No.
When it comes to lasting damage? Yes.

Alcohol related deaths should not count. Unfortunately the British glass liver is mostly to blame for those.

So you are calling skateboarding, cheerleading, and gymnastics a sport? So too is merely swimming in a pool?

I guess we'd have to agree on what qualifies a sport. Because the above listed are activities, not sports. What one competitor does has no impact on the other in those "sports."

That said, I know what you're saying. Also one must acknowledge the amount of boxers and boxing matches compared to number of participants in other sports. Your average boxer sustains infinitely more damage from boxing than your most hardcore swimmer sustains from swimming. Replace "swimming" with just about every single sport or even activity out there. And that's not very debatable.

Almost none of those are actual sports. Those are activities.
