How did Beterbiev slip under the radar?

He’s excellent. I was on the train after the Cloud fight. Dude’s career just hasn’t happened though. Gvozdyk was a very good win. But outside of that he doesn’t have much else at all. It’s not like his record is littered with the ‘decent’ names as filler like GGG it Crawford’s is either.

There is lots of pride in the amateurs there. And some financial backing as well. The Olympics are a big, big thing for many nations.

Oh I don't know about that sunshine....

He has beaten two men in the top five of his division, in Gvozdyk and Johnson. I highly doubt there's more than ten others who've done that. Plus, he's looked pretty ****ing good in doing so, to the point where he's the defacto number one, H2H, in one of the strongest divisions right now. And like Loma and Usyk, he has an INSANE amateur background. It's absolutely mental.

I'd leave him out of a top 10, and from what I can remember he was one of three I'd considered for my top 10 who didn't make the cut (so top 13?). But I can't see him below 15.

P4P has never been about resume. If it was then why was Crawford rated #1 or #2 for so long? P4P is a mythical list where guys rate the "best" fighters in the world. It has nothing to do with achievements or resume. It's who do you think are the best and most skilled fighters.

Just because Beterbiev beat Gvozdyk doesn't mean he all of sudden become a top fighter. He's always been a top fighter he just hadn't proven it against the top level opposition. But his skills were always there.

    Top 15 is fine.
Having him at your number 10 is fine.

    Top 5 isn't.

Off the top of my head I can think of 12 people I'd put in front of him, that's why I said I don't know without sitting down.

I think this guys hype train has got out of control when it comes to the die hards.
I get that he's not a big name, so people push him more, but there's every chance his career fizzles into nothing.

Boxers dont do well past 36 generally, and if he finishes his career with under 25 fights, he's underperformed massively.
    He's 35.

I don't know about that mate.

I think it originally was just who would be the best if you scaled them to heavyweight, because heavyweight is the be all and end all for casuals.

Now, I think everyone has their own criteria.
To say that résumé or achievements have nothing to do with it is a bit flippant though.

For example, you've got guys like Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov, who look ****ing dope, but he's not getting near anyone's p4p list. The reason? He hasn't fought a name yet, so we don't know if his game translates at the highest level.
