He doesn't have any voluntaries coming up. He has a mandatory. Povetkin. The WBA said they'd only push Povetkin back if Joshua fights Wilder. That's all. And Hearn said they won't fight in Russia. If they are told to (via purse bid), they'll consider vacating. Which do you think is MOST likely? 1.A unification with Wilder? 2. A mandatory defense against Povetkin after purse bids (that Russia could win)? 3. Or Joshua dumping the WBA belt and fighting Matchroom fighter Big Baby Miller? Hearn's already said what's coming up if stomping his feet and demanding everyone do what he says doesn't work. And it isn't choice #1 or #2. We'll find out soon enough. Hearn is meeting with Finkel on Thursday (tomorrow). Miller fights Saturday. And the WBA has demanded Joshua and Povetkin start negotiations. It'll all become clear soon. I'm leaning toward #3.
I’m leaning towards The Povetkin fight. Hearn talked about Miller recently, as well as Wilder. He could have put in an application for a voluntary against Miller, but that boat has now sailed. I wouldn’t blame them for not wanting to go to Russia, given the current political problems going on. I don’t think it will come to that though.
It still amazes me how Joshua/Wlad/Vitali/Haye all ducked Wilder..... Yet Breazeale, Molina, Washington, Scott have 0 issues facing him. @Dubblechin You can't call yourself a 'boxing fan' when you would rather see Wilder become 50-0, by fighting B/C standard opponents, than try and become undisputed.....Or even unify!
You have to give it to haymon he out maneuvered Hearn. To get his number ranked two boxer to become the mandatory over the number 1 is a master stroke. Also explains why there was no counter offer as they can say they have a mandatory to deal with first ignoring a unification fight with Joshua.
