How did Cortez's performance effect Hopkins Calzaghe ???

I look at this in the context of the Hatton vs Floyd fight.

He reffing stances were mirror images for the two fights. Let Hopkins get away with far too much.

 

He did let hopkins get away with alot...play acting etc.

I suppose he could've done more to stop that...

Other than that though it was a **** mash of styles and would be a crap fight to watch anyway.

 

Don't think Cortez had much to do with the fight apart from the fact that he let Hopkins get away with the 2 breathers he had. Strange decisions because he never docked Calzaghe any points.

Cortez did okay I suppose, a neutral performance, and he's never been a good ref so he did okay by his standards.
Hopkins and Calzaghe has more to answer for with their performances. They both sucked.

 

There was nothing outrageous in the fight. Yes, Hopkins got away with a few old school tricks but Calzaghe knew that it would be part of Hopkins' gameplan before they went into the fight.

As I said, Cortez had very little impact on the fight. Calzaghe would not have stopped Hopkins if they had fought for 15 rounds at 6 minutes each. The only possible thing you can blame on Cortez was that he let Hopkins have those two breathers and you can argue that there WAS a low blow for one of those, regardless of how much it would have hurt. I think Hopkins won both of those rounds he took breathers in so it may have had a small impact.

But the top and bottom is that the judges gave it to Calzaghe so it doesn't matter.

 

Thats pretty much fair enough.

He didn't affect it... the bone of contention was how he was all over Hatton when he got close to Floyd - but then let Bernard get away with it. Ridiculous inconsistency, favouring the American fighter both times.
