Disagree. Cus D'Amato, Jimmy Jacobs, and Cayton....made Tyson richer than he could ever imagine. I think Tyson was already worth around 35-50 Million (in the 80's) in his early 20's when he was with Cayton and Tyson was just getting warmed up. You can't count the years building up to the title and popularity because there are fewer dollars to be made. While with Cayton (and Jacobs), He was making Millions inside and outside the ring and he was Loved. You can make millions alone just shooting those Japanese commercials, let alone commercials for other endorsements. Which means, he would have continued to make money after he retired if he kept his **** together. Now that's debatable. He also had hefty bank account setup for him that would grow interest so he was set for life. Cayton was getting Tyson's purses higher and higher as the years went on. All King did was leach off that momentum. He didn't build Tyson. He didn't build the promotional tool that was "IRON MIKE TYSON." King didn't make Tyson more money or popular like he would have you believe. Actually, he destroyed what Tyson had and took another angle to it. Tyson would have always made that money and it would have been legit money you can actually count every cent unlike King who Tyson compared to the movie THE MONEY PIT. Just because it says Tyson is getting 25 million, how much was he really getting after King lied to him and took it? That's where the complain was with King. But yes, as far as responsibility, Tyson blew it with signing with King. And not only that, from a personal stand-point, he blew his money because he, Tyson, didn't know how to deal with having millions to his name...specifically when King encouraged him to spend spend spend.
Though I agree Cus and Jacobs made him rich what was Tyson making when he was with King per fight ? And not sure of the time frame but when did Tyson become the king of PPV was that prior to signing with King or after ?
You don't understand what I'm getting at. Cus, Jimmy, and Bill...BUILT the TYSON EXPRESS. That's the hardest part. Tyson was rich in his early 20's before King took over and Tyson was just getting warmed up with how much he could make. Think about how long it takes fighters, these "Superstars," to make huge money. How long does it take for them to build up a rep. before they get a big payday. Bill was getting Tyson bigger and bigger paydays with each fight. And was also in the process of putting together a World Tour that would have made him a fortune...Inside and OUTSIDE the ring. Remember, Tyson was starting to make millions OUTSIDE of the ring. With King, that all went to **** because Tyson became the villain. All those millions lost. Not only short-term, but long term. Tyson was bigger than Jordan at the time. We all saw what Jordan did with his endorsements. All King did was take over a well oiled machine that was already rolling out Gold Bricks. Now I'm not positive what Tyson ended up with, with his last under Cayton, which was the Spinks fight...but, S.I. said this And, unlike with King, Cayton actually would give Tyson the money with receipts. Which means, Tyson actually got to keep his share. Plus, you have to remember what I posted in my thread on how Tyson lost his money. You can say King got him 20 million dollars...but when it was all said and done, it is only 20 million dollars when its actually being placed in your bank account and you have full control of it. It wasn't. Tyson was being ripped off. Did you get a chance to read that thread? This content is protected ____
