Great? Flat? Marks out of 1-10, and what could he have improved on?

Terrible. He is Filipino but he had to go Mexican style. Meaning throw more punches and pressure. Dunito was looking for one shot a time, the right straight was on point but the left hook missed badly. I would like the kid to retire. As for the Magdaleno the mexican. Oh my the kid was on his bike most of the time but the work rate won him the right.

Donaire has to improve on his warriorness. He said before this fight making an ass of himself. That he is a warrior. Well go there and throw more punches.

I thought he won 7 rounds to 5, but he stood flat footed most of the fight. Ate a lot of leather.

No way Magdaleno won that fight - it was outright robbery. Donaire wasnt great - certainly not - but Magdaleno did nothing to deserve the gift he got. Outrageous.

Too bad too..there was a time that this kid lit up the boxing scene..at one time I thought..besides power..this kid was better than his compatriot Pacman..but he's lost it..after the Rigo fighthe simply was never the same..gunshy and has lost something mentally.

I see no way back for him..he is wrecked as the fighter he once was..but hey this is boxing..u never know.

Slow. Got outboxed and outmaneuvered for long stretches against Magdaleno, who had the jab and counter right hook working pretty well from the middle rounds on.

He couldn't or didn't pull the trigger when he needed to. His timing was off and he let the young man buffalo him. He had a lot of chances to shut Magdaleno down and did not capitalize on them. He paid the price with a loss.

I think Donaire's issues are mental. He's still got the speed and the ability and he isn't that old but he is getting up there. All he wants to do is slug it out one haymaker at a time. It's like he hit his head and forgot how to box.

I agree Donaire got robbed but he deserved to get robbed.Or allowed himself to get robbed. No complaints with the decision. It too late to undo it but Donaire always had this habit of giving away rounds by being inactive.Frustrating to watch he can but will not put the foot on the pedal more.

He looked like he would have fared better if he had a plodding, face first midget in front of him, instead of a viable opponent. People don't realize that most of who Donaire fought at the lower weights were unskilled, plodding, limited opponents. There aren't much in terms of skilled athletic guys at the lighter weights. When Donaire moved to 118, he was matched carefully. He didn't fight any of the best five guys at 118 while he was there. He fought Sydorenko, Montiel, and Narvaez, three midgets, who weren't one of the top five guys at the weight class. Good boxers like Moreno, and Agbeko, would have have given Donaire problems, he was kept away from them. At 122, he was still matched carefully, Vazquez Jr. wasn't good, Nishioka was retired, Arce was more than shopworn, and Mathebula couldn't have been more crudely skilled. Donaire was given fighter of the year for fighting such mediocre opposition, and then people were surprised when the 5'2 1/2 Rigondeaux gave Donaire the Cuban boxing experience, with all the trimmings of being made to look amateurish while hitting air repeatedly, being given the swollen pumpkin face(really grotesque looking backstage post fight), a broken eye socket, and being left in such awe as to thank the Cuban for giving him "beautiful boxing" post fight.

Last night Donaire looked like a guy who needs to cut weight and move back down to 115, where he can feast on the smaller, limited, plodding, less skilled guys. He is a boxer that is mentally unfixable. He has some good tools. His straight right hand is underated. He often fights timidly though, seemingly afraid to step into range. He gets hit anyway, so he might as well go all in. Guys don't want to fight inside with Donaire. Magdaleno backed up most of the fight, because he didn't want that type of heat either. Donaire's inside game is lazy though. Overall Donaire is lazy, one big punch at a time, that hardly ever lands. He's been exposed time after time now. The same would have happened, had he faced this level of opposition at the lighter weights.

Not good. He did look flat-footed and slow. The power and conditioning and focus and desire was there. But the speed and reflexes that made him great have pretty badly faded. He needs to be carefully matched at world class level and avoid boxers if he's going to keep fighting.

Close fight, and hard to disagree with the outcome. Either could have won. I've never been impressed with Donaire. I remember his sob story about being bullied in school on 24/7. If you look at most of his career defining fights, he looked huge against them. Now that he's fighting guy his own size, he's about average. HBO just wanted another Pacquiao. Donaire was and never close to that.
