The ****ell fight was one of the more disgusting fights I've ever seen.

Disgusting in that the dirty tactics used were just all wrong.

    You want the truth?

Marciano, God rest his soul, was overrated. Fought in a weak era against mostly over the hill fighters. A large number of that 49-0 record were tomato cans.

Rocky would have been exposed in the '60s and '70s.

A large number of people want to believe otherwise, but this is the truth.

If Yancey is saying that Marciano may have dropped some to guys like Ali, Foreman, Norton and Frazier, he may be right.

    But "exposed"?

I think not. Marciano would have taken them all on a trip to hell, win or lose.

Do you disagree that Marciano was shamelessly dirty in that fight? That his 49 wins include a large percentage of mediocre opponents? That his biggest wins were old and/or small opponents?

I can't fathom Marciano losing to Norton.

Don't know about Norton. But Ken would be viable. Physically, athletically, he would be Marciano's superior.

Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, and Holmes all beat Rocky.

And I believe Quarry would have too.

Of all the heavyweight champions that came before his time, Quarry felt that the one he would surely have beaten was Marciano.

Norton did not have the style or chin to beat Marciano. Norton although a great athlete tended to slap with his punches, could not move well at all laterally and had a very suspect chin. He would be the last fighter I would pick over a prime ATG puncher. Norton does not see round 8.

Agreed. Only way he gives Foreman hell is if he throws some low blows or head butts him. Or maybe if Foreman busts his hand on Rocky's head.

I agree with this entire post aside from Quarry. I don't think he had the tools to pull it off.

I think Quarry lands a big counter-punch early, decks Rocky, and builds from there and takes control of the fight.

Jerry was more polished than Rocky and I think he would have many opportunities in this fight. Quarry needs to let Rocky come to him in this one. No point in trying to prove things by standing toe to toe.

The Quarry I'm talking about is the circa 1969 one. At 198 pounds he would also have about 10-15 pounds on Rocky. For that time period, a true heavyweight with a legitimate skill set.

Cuts on both sides, of course, could change all the equations.
