How did this change occur? I feel like the sport would have been a lot more interesting with 15 rounds instead of 12.

rounds 13-15 were deemed the most dangerous because of fatigue.
they started phasing them out after the mancini vs kim fight

As I understand it, Europeans wanted to become involved in Pro fighting but needed lesser rounds to compete. Studies showed that by end of round 10 Europeans wwere dehydrated and couldn't continue beyond that.

Also, fits more easily into one-hour time slot for prime time TV.
(back in the day when boxing was on TV.)
    36minutes + 12minute breaks + commercials.

some Korean dude died after the fight. The mother of the korean dude killed herself, then the ref killed himself after feeling guilty.
next think you know we'll ban mexican style gloves and make everyone wear 18oz winning gloves. Why stop there? Make them wear a headgear and body protector.

    LOL.

Don't get so touchy. I was just pulling your chain.
Actually the study showed that Euros could actually fight to 12 rounds before scrumbling to exhaustion and in need of Ale injections.

Triskaidekaphobia, the fear of the number 13.

In the 70s, it was diagnosed that a significant number of American boxers suffered from it. Hence, 12 rounds.

In some parts of the world, people still box to the full 15 rounds.

Mancini vs. Kim was the final tipping point, but there had been a push for years to reduce the championship distance.
