The fight is on at a SILLY time here in the UK. Plus, I'm an old man, so I don't have the ability to stay up all night like I used to. :D

So how did Floyd look out there? Did he look his age or was Marcos fighting out of his skin?

I'm hearing calls for a rematch.. Is one justified? If Floyd moves on, who does he face next?

What are the chances of Floyd retiring with the '0' after last nights performance?

floyd looked prob the worst iv ever seen him. his handspeed had dropped, he found his timing in the mid rounds and for a few rounds looked like the floyd of old but his balance was also really off, often over commiting to shots and missing wildly..

very different to the floyd we are used to seeing. maidana fought a very good strong fight throwing 800+ punches really trying to bully floyd and did well early but alot of his punches did not connect. a rematch is not exactly a bad idea because the fight was close. i had floyd winning by 2 rounds but more then a few had it closer then that and some had maidana winning.

the fight was foul filled, maidana constant use of low blows, and hitting behind the head (at one point even attempted a muay thai knee). floyd also used a **** load of elbows in the fight both fighters fouls went completely unpunished (even though weeks was warning them from pretty much round 1)

after tonights performance i think he will take a loss in his last few fights

Agree with all of the above, spot on analysis.

Incidentally don't old people tend to sleep less and get up really early? Mayweather fight started around 5am UK time so thread starter could have caught it first thing ;-)

he looked the same. he just fought much better competition and style he's not used to. that's why he looked like ****. lucky for him, Maidana has **** stamina.

He showed his age by not being able to use his legs much. imo his legs have been declining for years now. But he also showed why he doesn't like to fight strong pressure fighters with a good punch. He was up in Floyds face every minute of every round and was throwing punchers from all angles.

I think the rematch is justified based on that it was a close competitive fight and it was a damn exciting fight. Arguably the most entertainig Floyd fight ever.

I think he beats Maidana in a rematch more convincingly. Floyd is great at figuring guys out and neutralizing them. While this didn't work yesterday ( of which i was very surprised) i expect him to study the tape and come up with a plan..

I think he will eventually lose, simply cause father time will catch up with him. I don't think he's going to retire as long as he is making 25+ million paydays. So whether it is in his next fight or over 3 years, he is going to lose one day. It depends on who he fights of course. Of the potential fights out there at 147 and 154 i think Golovkin beats him. Lara will be 50-50 and he should still beat the rest. However if Porter keeps improving, he might have Floyds number.

Oh my goodness, you seriously have to love how people jump the gun around here, it's ridiculous.

Lennox Lewis had a terrible amount of trouble with Ray Mercer, many thinking he even deserved to lose, did that mean he was absolutely shot?

Duran lost to a much less skilled in De Jesus, does that mean his lightweight legacy is somewhere questioned now?

Bernard Hopkins looked like age caught up to him overnight in his fights with Dawson, people were everywhere claiming he was now shot to pieces, yet has he not gone on to defeat much better opponents?

Prime Pacquiao was thoroughly outboxed by a Morales who was thoroughly declining, was he suddenly shot too? Did he not go on to get a ton of more big wins?

    --------------------------------------------------

Do you know how many examples I can give like that? Seriously every great boxer from Muhammad Ali, to Lennox Lewis, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, and everyone else has struggled with someone who was much less skilled in their careers. Sometimes one guy may be nowhere near as skilled, but have the absolute right style to horribly trouble a much more skilled boxer. All boxers have off nights as well, we've seen this time and time again since the beginning of the sport. Just take a good look at some of boxing's history, do some research, and you'll see things like that of which occurred tonight have happened to every great fighter out there.

It's so preposterous how everyone has suddenly jumped the gun here, clearly it's a combination of bandwagoning and pure ignorance. Mayweather is obviously far more skilled than Maidana, but guess what? Maidana had a style that managed to pose a great deal of trouble to Mayweather, and thus was able to put forth a very formidable challenge. Does this mean that Mayweather is suddenly shot? Absolutely not, how incredibly moronic for anyone to think that. Anyone who doesn't realize that every great boxer has gone through the very same thing, a much less skilled fighter being able to cause them a great deal of trouble, is absolutely clueless, and should just shut their yap.

Just wait and see, I bet Mayweather comes back stronger than ever. If he went a series of fights showing serious deterioration, then you can make a case he was seriously declining. Jumping to the conclusion he is suddenly shot to pieces, all because a good fighter who possessed an unorthodox style was able to trouble him? That just makes you look incredibly foolish when we look at the history of boxing, and how every great fighter has went through this.

Styles make fights....Miadana adjusted his style to really give Floyd a run for his money. Pressure and relentlessness created problems with Floyd's ability to fight his fight.

Floyd ended up fighting Miadana's fight and took some punishment. Floyd did. It successfully control the distance or pace last night. Marcos controlled the real estate and tempo.....with that said.....Floyd still made the fight close enough to win on some cards.

Maybe give Mayweather the Khan fight next and he would look like a million dollar man once again. Or maybe he would be troubled by Khan'speed?

I wonder how Mayweather was even able to take an after fight shower with you grabbing and clinging to his nuts as if your life depended on it.

Yeah okay doke, problem with that statement is I've been calm the entire time. Sure I'm a Mayweather fan, I am a fan of all the great defensive specialists, but I'm not some obsessed fanboy. I'd say the exact same thing if this situation arose again, regardless of the fighter. The way people jump the gun around here is something to behold, never seen so many people who were so incredibly fickle, first a guy is the best out there, five minutes later he is now a shot fighter?

Styles make fights, always have, always will. Every great fighter has struggles against people who are substantially less skilled, but have the right ingredients in their style to trouble them, that has also been a recurrent occurrence all throughout boxing history. I just don't understand how this isn't blatantly obvious to everyone else?

what a ****ing idiotic thing to say. ill be honest i am one of the people who thought floyd looked horrible tonight as my post above states and i think age has caught up with him until i red cyrax's post and he makes a very valid point based on factual evidence and thats your response ? your a ****ing child...so invested in the hate of another man you clearly cant see his argument was hardly PRO FLOYD

i think what cyrax has said maybe true i mean he made canelo look like an absolute amateur at a weight floyd is not comfortable at, the reflexes and speed were there, timing and defense were incredible.. fast forward the clock 8 months and we get floyd tonight and it looks COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. he seemed to have slowed a little , the balance thing worried me the most i always tell people who dont like floyd and ask why i enjoy watching him so much "because its just so ****ing clean the way he fights, alot of the time you get awkward fighters an they just tangle feet and parry/partial block shots all night long, occasionally setting up a big shot and its just kind of annoying to see"

i suppose september will show us the truth
