Gavin should stick to what worked for him as an amateur. I hate all this BS about " He needs to make the transition to pro Boxing", which usually translates to moving less, fighting more flat footed, looking for power. Floyd Mayweather didn't get where he is fighting flat footed and languishing infront of his opponents waiting for a receipt. He got there by fighting on the balls of his feet, moving, and utilizing his speed of hand and foot. Hell there are probably journeyman pros that would be considered to have "a pro style", but are they on Amir Khans level, a guy who allegedly has an amateur style? You dont have to become predictable and rely on a power game to be a pro fighter imo. Gavin should focus on what got him to hit the heights as an amateur. If the truth be told some of the International competition as an amateur has been of a higher standard than the pro fighters he's already fought.
Thought he was absolutely superb the other night. First time I've watched him as a pro and thought that!
When he turned pro, I had him head and shoulders above the rest. I've never seen a British fighter with such a great judge of distance. But he has been well below his best for a while now. Can he return back to his best who knows? Saturday night was the best Frankie Gavin I've seen in a attacking sense but this is Kevin McIntrye we're talking about. I thought he got caught too much saturday night, he beats everyone bar Brook at the minute domestic scene for me.
I think Frankie just needs to be more active, he does seem in a good place which bodes well, he is technically a very good fighter and he showed glimpses of that last Saturday.
yeah hes gonna be fighting again in 6 weeks possibly againts horta and then he should get the winner of witter v lynnes for the british title.
Yeah some of his counters were excellent, especially taking the ring rust into accounts, lets hope he stays busy now to make up for lost time!
