Supposedly he, like many fighters, was lured into investing on false premises by "friends" and over the years that sapped much of his money.

The Rocky movies are pretty close to real life boxing storys.

Rocky I, the old jouryman tale of a shot. And he loses. Now, most often they get ko, but for Hollywood, Rocky goes the distant.

Rocky II, the rematch, and Rocky wins, maybe a Jimmy Braddock like story.

Rocky III, is more like Jack Dempsey, has the fame, the money, interviews, even shows up on the muppet show. And a place on life lol. Loses his hunger and fights Lang(Tunney) and loses, gets his hunger back and wins the rematch(I suppose the long count robbed Dempsey of that glory.)

Rocky 4, is more like Joe Louis, 2 nations, Russian vs America, Germany vs USA, ete. Good vs Evil. Ok Drago is superman, but still, Max look like Superman after beating Louis.

Rocky 5, retirement, and like most ex champs loses his money in stocks ete.

In Rocky V, Balboa's estate was lost due to his brother in law signing over all the accounts via power of attorney. I don't know if this is what happened to Joe Frazier. From what I've heard or read, apparently Frazier was having financial troubles as early as the thrilla in manilla in 1975.

Bad investments, bad investments, bad investments.

Frazier was rarely wealthy. He never made smart money decisions, and the second he started making a lot of it, had more going out than coming in. Highly profitable boxing matches at the end of his career helped keep him afloat, and he made positive changes, but some family issues and a couple of friends conning him brought him back to a square very early on the board: A gym operator trying to get by.

Similar stuff happened to Marvis, though he actually isn't that bad off.

When most people make a great deal of money they do it in business and are business savvy, it is completely different when they are a boxer, a sportsman or an entertainer they just are not business savvy and so many of these sort of people lose their money or are careless with it not realising how bloody hard it is to make the money that they did make. The stories of this happening are endless and it will continue to happen it is just part of life.
