How did gavin Rees get a world title shot to begin with

    m'baye was effectively promoted by warren. warren needed a sacrificial lamb. and an undefeated, local, high ranking, part time, super featherweight was a logical choice. great performance by rees total out hustled him. glad he did that

    I agree with this.

    I thinks he is a decent fighter, I have no problems with his style either.

    Rees - Mitchell of foty material imo.

    What many people forget however was that it was originally Graham Earl who Warren was trying to match M'Baye against but the WBA refused it, only for some reason to allow the even less deserving Rees to fight for the belt. But he earned it with his performance on the night and Earl presumely would have been beaten by M'Baye.

    It probably doesn't look quite as silly now that Rees has gone on to win a Prizefighter(among quite a talented pool of fighters) and a British title. But it did really seem insane at the time.
