He had been in too many wars, he was already showing signs of brain damage. Plus he probably entered the training camp at +300, lost a lot of weight and still came in at his career high. Plus he underestimated Golota, who was good.
I'm not saying Golota wasn't good, but he was not THAT good as some Polish fans would like him to be.

    ATG ?

After the Hoylfield loss, Bowe couldn't even stay in shape. Bowe ko'ed a clearly sick Holyfield in 95.....a fully healthy Holyfield would've tooled him.

People always try to discredit Golota in this fight by saying Bowe was shot. It's the same excuses everytime.

The fact of the matter is that Bowe was just after the Holyfield fights, still in his prime, and still young. He came over-weight a little in the first fight, because he thought Golota would be a walk in the park... boy was he wrong.

For the second fight he came in one of the best shapes of his career, and got beat even worse then the first time.

Golota had all the skill in the world to be a great champion, except the mental aspect of it, which in boxing is crucial. Golota was just that good.

Later he went to lose his great jab after a car accident in which his best friend died, and wasnt really the same since, although years later got robbed and unofficially beat Byrd, and Ruiz in many peoples eyes, which would have gave him two heavy weight championship belts.

He could have been great if he was right in the head.

Golota WAS that good, and it's not only Polish fans who say this.

Look at his foot work, look at his speed, look at his techinical ability, look at his power, look at his chin, and look at his Godly jab pre-accident. He had it all, except the mental aspect.

Even YEARS after his prime, he still beat two HW belt holders, in fights he should have gotten the nod, but didnt.

golota was a good HW and had Bowes number in that first fight, IMO Bowe under estimated Golota and Bowe obviously didnt bring his A game, and it was clear to see. For the 2nd fight though I have no idea Bowe should have figured Golota out, come in in better shape which he did and beat the man but he simply had a repeat performance and I'll never know why. Only thing I can think of is Bowe maybe had some huge personal issue that had taken over his mind and will for the 2nd fight, but I really have no idea. Bowe WAS NOT shot, maybe starting to pass his prime but he should have beaten Golota.

Bowe was walking dead, shot overnight by the time Golota got to him.
The Bowe that fought Holyfield the first time would've been a totally different opponent, and I think everyone agrees on that.

Golota was a decent boxer, but he had some serious mental issues and never really carried it to the ring exceot those two fights, and even then he managed to lose.

Styles make fights. IMO Holyfield would have beaten Golota every time if they fought ten.
People overrate Bowe a little in my opinion, beating Holyfield doesn't mean he was on another level, I don't think bowe would have beaten Tyson for example, perhaps not even the diminished version that Holyfield fought whereas I'd pick Holy over even a peak Tyson. Also IMO Lewis would have outboxed and ko'd Bowe late Whereas I tend to lean more and more towards Holy in a Lewis -Holy prime for prime match as the years go by.
Golota was a guy who had a lot of tools but could rarely put them all together, he just didn't have it up there. Tyson is similar, all the talent in the world, all the physical ability but was really a bit of a flash in the pan compared to what he might have been if he had it upstairs.

Andrew was one of the best HW in 90's and for sure he's not overrated. He's got a talent, skills and was well promoted, there was no luck too, beside weak mentality. Certainly Golota was the best HW boxer who has never been a world champion, but should has been, becasue he deserved.

Because Golota was a damn good fighter.

Plus Bowe's shape was extremely bad in both fights and he was outboxed and outfought.

Bowe was far from "shot". Golota simply had the size, jab and all around style to school Bowe. Bowe was definitely shot after the brutal beatings he took after both Golota fights, particularly the second one. And he hasnt been able to get an erection since.

That pretty much sums it up.

Golota was one of the best fighters in the world when he faced Bowe, and the two wars they had ruined both fighters.

Don't discredit Golota for whooping Bowes ass tho.

Golota was suppose to be a stepping warm up fight for Bowe. So Bowe blew up in weight thinking, "hey this farm boy aint gonna beat me"

He also said countless times in interviews on his upcoming fight with Golota for the first time.

Bowe said "Why should I train to fight a bum?"

I remember during the first fight Larry said: " "Bowe said to me, why should I train to fight a bum?" Well hes fighting one now."'

Than after Bowe won the fight on DQ he wanted a rematch and dropped 50 pounds in 2 and a half months and actually did training.

    Exactly.

Bowe was in great shape in the second fight.

    This is horse ****.

With the exception of the meltdowns he had against Lewis and Tyson, prior to 2005, Golota was always competitive and was never really out boxed by anyone.

    Bowe was not really a great fighter. People like to think he was because he has wins over a great fighter, Evander Holyfield. Bowe was a very good fighter, who just for some reason matched up well against Holyfield. People like to remember Bowe as this great infighter, a big man with a good jab and good game on the inide. What they forget was;
Bowe was undisciplined, he ballooned up between fights, it takes it's toll...
Another often overlooked aspect of Bowe's game was his utter lack of defense. Aside from Holyfield, Bowe was kind of babied in regard to his opposition.

Against Golota, Bowe probably did not train hard. He figured if he could beat Holyfield, anyone else would be a walk over. He was wrong. Golota was no muscled up cruiser weight. Golota was close in size to Bowe, and was a fairly strong fighter with some decent skills. What Golota lacked was mental strength. The ultimate result was Riddick Bowe getting his ass handed to him, and escaping with a DQ win. For the rematch, Bowe came in better shape (perhaps over-trained), but he still had a formidable opponent who was able to exploit Bowe's limitations. Unfortunately for Golota, he still had his own mental deficencies costing him another loss via DQ.
