How did Haye look before injury

I agree he should have pulled out of the fight, however he would of been crucified for pulling out of the fight this late especially given his track record plus I'm sure he needed the money.

I give Bellow some credit for pulling of a big upset but let's not pretend the Haye injury didn't play a massive part in the outcome of the fight.

 

Yeah Haye was in a bad spot as him pulling out would of seen his character destroyed due to previous pull outs.

Someone with that many injuries needs to quit. His body isn't built for the fight game anymore.

 

Fair enough, he looked to be carrying too much weight...

 

I think he was injured going in to the fight, and him trying to stay flat-footed and protect the injury lead to him looking off balance, and throwing wild shots trying to get Bellew out of there early. Haye is far too injury prone now. If he continues his career it is going to cost him fights.

 

i caught only the highlights of the fight, but it was pretty obvious to me that his stumbling about was caused by loss of balance caused from head trauma rather than a leg injury. there was no favoring of any particular limb as he struggled to stay upright, he just took a hard hit that he never recovered from. reminded me of khan vs maidana. not saying he was 100% going into the fight, but he had no problem pushing off of either leg in his lunging at his opponent.

 

Nah. I'm as big a Haye hater as you'll find on these boards, but that was a legit injury. You can even pinpoint the exact moment his leg goes halfway through round six. He throws a punch then steps back and buckles then falls into the ropes. It wasn't from a landed punch. I'm not making excuses for the fcuker since he was looking like hot garbage before that and the injury came about through the general wear and tear of the fight but this wasn't any BS this time. It was karma.

 

He was decent, lost his speed and his accuracy. He didn't look as someone that can be ranked in top10. The likes of Pulev would jab him all night. Both guys are slow, basicly if there wasn't so much hype this would be considered as a **** show.

 

i would have to watch it again with a bit more interest. i always saw haye as a british media creation that had the perfect audience to sell him to, i never really took him serious as a historical somebody in boxing, so i only watched the highlights for entertainment.
perhaps you can point me to an example of him limping or favoring a particular leg at some point in the fight past the 6th rd that the highlights might have missed.

 

Exactly this. The injury didn't 'just' happen in the 6th, but it was made much worse and severe to the point the result was 95% a foregone conclusion. Up until then even with the bad ankle he was 4 -1 up going into the 6th.

 

His jab was non existant. The times it did land, it was very heavy.Power wasn't the problem here

 

It's clear from some of these posts that people don't understand boxing, how to score a fight or let personal feelings cloud judgement.

Haye looked bad before the injury, ring rust and weight made him slow and uncoordinated. He was still winning the fight. Without the injury Haye could have cruised to an easy points win. Bellew was terrified of getting starched and fought in retreat without scoring, he did win the first round.

Haye should have hung the gloves up after Chisora. I actually thought he might pose a few problems to Joshua but no chance. Haye would have to fight 4 maybe 5 fights to get his sharpness back and then he would still struggle against a good jab from a bigger HW.
