I’ll throw in the round 9 liver shot that Gatti got up from in the first Ward fight.
I’ll also include Ali getting up from that obscene left hook from Smokin’ Joe in The Fight of the Century.
In each case if those men had stayed down nobody would’ve blamed them. Those knock downs occurred late in the fights, both of which were wars.

    Frazier vs Ellis 1.
Ellis rising from the second KO at 16:50 showed a lot of heart.
    Frazier's left hook was devastating.

Great thread. Hopkins and Toney look like entirely different people at those lower weights.

I've said this before here...was watching Holmes-Shaver with the old man. When Holmes hit the canvas, my father jumped up screaming "the fight's over! It's over!". Of course, it wasn't.

Several to choose from in this fight, but the one that comes to mind is Gonzalez freezing and crashing down hard onto his back in the 10th after absolutely swallowing a right hand. He then came back to score a perfectly legitimate KD of his own in the very next round.

Marquez recovering from three knockdowns in round 1 against Pacquiao, particularly kd no. 3 when he was clearly badly hurt. To pull out a draw after that was amazing. Marquez could have his own thread.

Also, it's amazing to think that the whole four fight series they had rests on Marquez's ability to recover from that final knockdown. Had he not, there's very little chance we'd have had any of the three subsequent fights.

Jess Willard v Jack Dempsey. I'm always amazed that Willard survived the first round.

Vince Pettway v Simon Brown. Both times Pettway went down it looked like the fight was over. The bell probably saved him with the first knockdown at the end of round 1 but he went through the ropes on the second one in round 5 and still recovered to score one of the most memorable knockouts of that era one round later.

Willard doesn't get the credit he deserves. The damage he sustained in that first round has to be rite up there as the most in boxing history yet they called him a quitter when he couldn't come out for the 4th I believe. Unbelievable

I forgot that Montiel managed to stand up! I only remembered him quivering on the canvas.

Cleveland Williams v Muhammad Ali. Williams was effectively knocked out at the end of round 2 but managed to make his way back to the corner with some help. Ali finished the job in the next round, of course.

Mathew Saad Muhummad in the 4th rd against Richie Kates was dropped face first and showed once again his amazing recuperative powers to storm back and ko him.
Happens just around 16. 35 min.

Wrong. It wasn't a knock out punch against 99 percent, it was a LIFE ENDING punch against 99 percent!
