Didn't look like it. Ornelas made him work, and Hopkins was his brilliant self. Maybe there's less snap on his punches but the skills were still there. I only say that b/c Ornelas is not a durable fighter and Hopkins only had him somewhat hurt once.
I had the fight even after four. Bernard did look a little rusty, not nearly as sharp as he did against Pavlik, but he came on late and had Ornelas pretty much reeling by 11 and 12.
It was actually a pretty good fight and Hopkins did look rusty early on but got into his groove by the 5th round and had a great 6th round where he landed a beautiful combination on Ornelas. And Ornelas didn't fight all that horrible either, he came to try to win that fight and it showed.
Good re-cap, Benny. Hopkins did look rusty early, which was to be expected, but he picked it up later. Respect to Enrique for coming to win rather than coming just to pick up a paycheck. Hops was right to take a tune up before his next big fight. He got sharper as the fight wore on, but the early rust might have cost him against a better opponent.
A lot of posters criticized BHop's performance, but that's only because we have a ton of people on here who aren't actually boxing fans. They are only fans of a few elite fighters. Consequently the knew diddley **** about Ornales. Hops dismantled him as expected, but Enrique Ornales ain't no walk down daisy lane for anyone.
Hops beat him but he was supposed to. What surprised me was how much hops was getting hit... he almost seemed like he couldnt be bothered slipping the shots only a few times did I see him backing up and slipping like the old hopkins. Granted he is still tricky and he made good use of distance where Ornelas wasnt getting any leverage on his shots while hopkins loaded up and caught him coming in. But I still didnt like what I saw from hops taking that many shots and not really trying to move
I thought he looked great. He did a bit of everything you expect from Hopkins. Exhibit great ring generalship, control distance, use the lead right hand, the left hook and show great in-fighting skills.
Decent. He didn't school him but won decisevely altough most the rounds were close. He looked unmotivated to me.
Finding out that Jones had gotten KO'd earlier in the day probably took some of the fire out of BHop.
Looks like Hopkins/Jones fight will still happen, if so, Hopkins by knockout. Hopkins is still a good fight at age 45 and some say is is even older!
he looked good. Didjust enought to win every round and turned it on in 9 to the finish. Made ornelous look stupid.
