More to the point, why are you looking at Boxrec for P4P lists and rankings? They are a joke in that respect, always have and always will be. So stop using them for rankings.

Pretty sure it's because the ranking is of active boxers, so only includes anyone who has not fought for more than a year which was the case for Hopkins before his latest fight. So he has now been replaced back into the rankings now he's active again.

What you mean? The boxrec computer is obviously biased towards BHOP.

Of course boxrec rankings are nonsense, but how you write an algorithm that pulls that off is still pretty funny.

It doesn't exist - it's a mythical list with mythical criteria ranking competitors that usually can never compete. It will always be subject to personal opinion. Even boxing journalist polls are off-base as most don't know enough about international fighters to rank them properly (by the differing criteria they'd all be using).

Does it not use some sort of ELO ranking system, similar to that used in chess?

In short, it's good for giving a rough guide, but isn't gospel or to be taken that seriously.

Agree with the gents above. Use BoxRec to track records, see whether announced fights are listed on a fighter's profile (take with a grain of salt while negotiations are underway of course) and get a feel for the top players by division and P4P, the rankings are at least good within a few places. Use your own brain for coming to decision on where a fighters placement should be.
