Was he a last minute replacement or something ? I mean I realize boxing is filled with instances where journeyman got title shots but this has to be one of the more dubious cases
went on to check the guy's record assuming u were overreacting 27-79, 26-10 at the time it must've been a last minute replacement.
- Coming into this bout, Clarke was a respectable 26-10-2. Following the loss to Vargas he went 1-68-0-1 in his next 70 bouts becoming one of Britain’s most reliable jouneymen. He would retire with a record of 27-79-2-1.
I remember the Boxing News staff scratching their heads about this, but I think that the two good wins against Papillionn and Galfi somehow got him a number ten rating. Unfortunatly I have heard that he is in a very bad way with boxing dementia.
I remember watching this fight. Clarke although a poor record was a really good boxer who gave loads of people a good fight and could have won more than he did. Probably a lot of his fights were home town decision losses. He has some good names on his record like, Farnell, Samuels, Rhodes, Williams, Wetton, etc He was a good mover and good skills. I was sad to hear about 15 years ago he suffering from dementia. I thought he had passed away but hope I am wrong.
