Absolute BS, Kindelan carried khan for two rounds and in the last round barely threw a punch there was an article in the daily mirror the day after something about kindelan retirement fund and that he was paid off, khan is not in the same league as kindelan never was and never will be
Amateurs wear headguards, they are beneficial to fighters with poor punch resistance. In the pro-game when khan gets hit his ring IQ is non-existant, theres no headguard to protect him, he fights on instinct stumbling around the ring and his gameplan goes out of the window. Khan has one of the lowest boxing IQs in the entire sport, he cannot adapt and has zero inside game.
I don't think that their third fight even counts. Kindelan was retired at that point and was paid well because that match was a promotion of Amir Khan turning pro and was a set up for Khan's pro debut. They fought 2 times in the amateurs, both times Kindelan won. First time it was a pre Olympic tournament where Mario beat him. The second time Kindelan beat him in the Olympic finals in Athens 2004. I think it was fair to point out that Kindelan was already well past his peak both times when he defeated Khan. After the 2004 Olympic games Kindelan retired.
The rematch in England was nothing but a paycheck for Kindelan. He sure as hell wasn't going to show up for that as he did the Olympic finals.
I don't buy into the "Kindelan was passed it" excuse. He wasn't that old and it's evened out by the fact that Khan was young and inexperienced. Kindelan might have been payed off or just generally lacking motivation though.
Khan style and attributes make his style suited for the amateurs. Regardless Kindelan was magnificient.
Kindelan was retired at that time, of course he was past his best. Anyway considering that he already defeated Khan 2 times, I believe that he would have beaten him again if it was some major tournament like the Olympics or World Championship. It was a match set to promote Amir Khan as he was going to start his professional career at the time. You surely wouldn't expect Khan to lose a match that was organized to promote him.
To deny Khan was a tremendous Olympic talent is silly. Bash him all you want...But he was a beast in the amateurs. Perfectly suited style & most important (for a 17 year old) CONFIDENCE. Like no other... Still to this day he is confident as fck despite getting Floored numerous times.
I'm not saying he was absolutely prime (neither was Khan) but it wasn't long after he won the Olympics and I'm assuming he did some training for the fight. Well I wouldn't be surprised if he did considering the opponent.
Khan was rocked plenty of times as an amateur and concussion is more common with the headguard than without, which is why AIBA has got rid of the head guard in elite male competition. When Khan was an amateur you often got points for half landed punches, his height, speed and in and out style was perfect for the amateur game at the time. You best believe that version of Amir would've beaten the Floyd who won bronze. Khan hasn't improved as a pro because of his sense of entitlement, he doesn't work to improve himself.
