Sorry if this ground has already been covered but I checked a few pages back and didn't see anything. How did Margarito look to you guys last night. I wasn't expecting Margarito to get all slick and do Sugar Ray's bolo punches, it was pretty weird. Anyway, Margarito started out in Margarito manner, knocking Garcia down in the first round and thereon punishing him to the body and head in Margarito fashion. But I caught something that made me uncomfortable. In about the 7th round Margarito's hands are down low and he looks tired. From the 7th on Margarito is doing a matador impersonation on Garcia. Now, knowing Garcia had power in both hands to ko Margarito, and seeing that Margarito stopped fighting in his usual manner did he get tired and ran from a ko or was he showing off the boxing skills he said he'd been concentrating on since his loss to Mosley?

It was a good fight, Margarito and Garcia looked like they were having fun in there even though it was somewhat weird as **** to see.

I always feel bad when I see a dude like Garcia lose though, knowing its their big shot at the big time. But his temperament in the ring sucks, a total hothead. I guess even if he got passed Margo that temperament would probably not fly vs the other top dogs.

I liked most of what I saw. He did look a little tired in the last two rounds, but he's been out for so long it would be unrealistic to expect perfection. It was odd to see Tony employ a blister and move strategy.

His power is as good as it always was since he dropped a fighter that has never been stopped with a single straight right. His corner kept telling him to go rounds presumably to shake off the rust of a 16 month layoff. The only thing that looked a little off was Margo stopped throwing his right hand early in the fight and often switched to southpaw to favor his left. I was wondering if he injured it during the fight.

If he ever goes up against PBF or Pacquiao he better drop the cute boxing and just storm them with punches. Margarito mentioned before the fight that he fully expected Garcia to bullrush him from the start so he probably followed a gameplan from his corner instead of going toe to toe like he usually does. Garcia seemed a little gunshy after getting knocked down and hit flush all night.

He was just trying to get some rounds under his belt that's all, his trainer was telling him just to box him and not to try and go for the knockout...

Was this a good indication to you, the fight that is, as to whether or not there is difference in punching power pre-wraps scandal and post-wraps scandal?

I think its the same punches, just the stamina came into question.

I watched it with German/Polish/Something Euro commentary and the dude was talking over the corner. So I missed a lot of that.

Margo has never really been a massive puncher. He is more the type who wears guys out over several rounds. Plus I would not expect him to have the same pop at the higher weight. All in all I wouldn't care to speculate to much just yet.

I thought he looked good, but you need to be great to beat the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather, if that's who they're trying to line him up with. I'm a Margarito fan, and I enjoyed the fight...and yes, I paid for it. I decided to make myself choose between Williams/Cintron and Margarito/Garcia, because I didn't want to switch back and forth (which I did, anyways), and I'm glad I made that decision. LOL

The one thing I laughed at was Garcia's reaction after the fight. Maybe it was a little lopsided, to some, but I didn't see that many rounds to GIVE to Garcia, let alone ones he earned. And then, after the fight, he's heard saying, "that's bull****", ''this wouldn't happen in the US", and other nonsense.

US, Mexico, Germany, or Mars...Margarito beats his ass just like he did last night. Sorry, Roberto.

Although he has not had to use that style as of late Marg has fought fighters like that in the past. Two that come to mind are Antonio Diaz and I believe Javier Mendez were he had to box going backwards more than he would like.

Yeah, I remember him yelling "rematch, I wanna rematch."

Someone's gotta tell him landing one or two hard shots in a round when the other guy lands twenty or thirty is not how you're gonna win a fight vs Margarito in Mexico of all places.

It was an entertaining fight, that's for sure.
I love how he would scream, "Whooooowwh!" everytime Margo hit him. I was thinking to myself, this guy's ****en nuts.

What I'm interested to know is how badly his opponent was hurt when he got knocked down in the first? Was it a flash/balance knockdown?

Margarito punches hard but he's never been a 1 punch guy, his stamina is usually just off the charts and he punishes you round after round I didn't expect the first round KD.

To me Margarito looked as I expected him to look vs a slower fighter who doesn't punch a lot.

And no, I don't think Margarito tried to show his 'new skills' in the last rounds. He knew he couldn't KO Garcia, he also knew that Garcia had the power to hurt him, and he knew he had the fight in the bag, so he decided to stay out of harms way and cruise to a UD, while putting on a show for the fans.

    Margarito is no bum.

    I didn't expect it either.

But judging from Garcia's look after he got up (he looked embarrassed) and the fact that he took way harder punches throughout the fight and didn't even blink, my guess is that he was just caught with a shot he didn't see coming and was slightly off balance.
