No doubt the count was long but it wasn't exactly egregious, nor deliberate. I think we've all seen plenty worse and it had no material impact on the outcome of the fight in my opinion.

I'll concede your second point about what constitutes a "fearful beating" but I am of the opinion that in context that was a very bad beating Mike took. It wasn't a close fight at any time after the first round.

Agreed, I wouldn't call that a fearful beating. I would classify that more under ass whipping.:boxing1

I assume Douglas was only that bigger underdog based off Mike's form and reputation. Obviously he was a lot better than the bookies thought.

In the same way Tyson fury was 2 rounds or one knockdown away from having a draw or loss to an MMA debut boxer.

Complacency and underestimating opponents will get you beat. It's not even a question of if but when, it will happen. Boxing takes no prisoners.

Tyson Fury likes to think he didn't underestimate or be complacent but it's impossible not to. Fury only gets mentally up for a fight against people who are supposed to beat him which is why he's invincible.

Complacency set in and he took Douglas as lightly as the Vegas odds makers. Tyson didn't put in the work and believed his own hype. Douglas was motivated and wasn't intimidated and had the style and plan to do a job on him. Perfect storm on Tyson.

After the first Bruno fight, the ring magazine's own headline was, "Did the Bruno fight reveal that Tyson could be beaten".
Now if anyone wants to look back at it, then yes it did.
Bruno fought him, Bruno went after him, Bruno did what nobody else had done, he hit him hard and the world saw that MT did not like it..
Frank led the way for Buster Douglas IMO, and he was never the same since....

Tyson's plan was to blow Buster away inside 3 rounds, when he didn't and an actual fight broke out Mike looked confused.

Douglas was ready for Tyson that night, while Tyson was thinking about the after party.

I see a lot of excuses being made for Tyson if the fight had happened these days I wonder if the #NoExcuses brigade would be out in full force?

Hard to know just how little Tyson prepared. I am a huge fan of him but the truth is, I can't think of many fighters as great as him that got absolutely annihilated by someone that normally wasn't at their level. The best find a way out of a bad night, or at least don't look like THAT in losing.

I agree with this. I am in no way a Tyson excuse maker, in fact I rooted against him when Holyfield fought him.

One thing that does get overblown about when people attack tyson, they make a big deal out of the big shot that Bruno landed and the big shot that Tucker landed and the big shot that Bone Crusher landed but the fact of the matter is Tyson wasn't even stunned with anything. Stopped him for about a second and that was it LOL I think too much is made of those punches I don't think Tyson was rocked or hurt or any type of danger whatsoever he just took the shots it stopped him for a moment and then he went right back on the attack.

Tyson had an extra roll of fat in his midsection and he spent most of his camp losing weight, he had no discipline with weight in his career between fights no matter what he says sometimes, even Cus told him he was getting fat one time according to tysons last book.
