How did most cans even make it to pro level?

Watching some fights on youtube that involves cans being crushed. Most of these cans have no technique at all you'd think it's just some guy picked off the street who hasn't had any boxing training ever.

Seriously where do they find these cans?

Doesn't take much to get to the pro level, just sign on the dotted line.

It's not like the NFL where you have to get drafted or signed into the pros. You basically just get a license and show up to get knocked out and collect a few hundred bucks.

  5. It's probably easier to get a fight if you are rubbish than if you are average. Boxers need to work their way up, technique up, confidence up, pad their record up!
They know why they are there.

"Pro level"? I don't think pro level is much higher than amateur level, I don't think it's an achievement to be a pro, it's an achievement to be a GOOD pro (or amataur)

This. You don't want to damage early prospects. They need to learn to fight in public, deal with someone who is out there to hurt them and finish opponents - something sparring does not provide.

I always laugh when boxfans think you have to be able to box to become a pro.
In some countries you have to be signed to some gym, and pass some easy physical. Others just require you to show up on the date.

You dont even need a trainer or some type of management?

If I walked up to my trainer and told him I wanted to be a pro he would smack me in the face

Depends who you're looking at. Most decent amateurs would struggle to land a glove on some of these pros that armchair fans declare to have "no technique", "no skill", and "no defense".

It's probably a mix of the above responses. Plus keep in mind, a lot of good amateurs are a lot less accomplished as pros, so not all cans are out to take losses for money. I'm sure some actually try.
