We all know that Dela Hoya was past his best when he fought Pacquiao. The only reason everyone can agree is because fatherhood has caught up on him.

He even said that on the post-fight interview. "When your physical doesn't respond, what can you do?" But Oscar being old fart as he was that night isn't the only reason alone why lost to Pacquiao.

The fight wasn't even close and because of that, I have come to believe that other than Oscar being old, there is a main reason the outcome was far from what was most of us expected to be.

On your own perspective...what was that main reason behind that win. These are all possible reasons I can think of. You're free to add your own opinion. Just don't make it obvious if you're going to hate lol.

I'll go first, and I'll have to say both 2 and 3.

Oscar has trouble with southpaws and also has trouble with fighters who don't bring the fight to him. Something Roach said when he trained Oscar is how poor he was at cutting off the ring. Pacquiao was sticking and moving all night, using his superior footspeed and footwork to keep Oscar at an angle where he couldn't get off his puches. Also, Oscar doesn't like fighters who have faster hands than he does. Think Whitaker, Mosley, Floyd, and Pacquiao. Also, Pacquiao feasts on these left hand dominant orthodox fighters. They are tailor-made for him. Barrera, Oscar, Cotto are all left hand dominant fighters who struggled to win a round off Pac.

Prime for prime I have Pac beating Oscar every time. Not as bad as the fight we saw in 2008 obviously.

Another point i forgot to mention is that Pac's stamina has always been better than Oscar's.

He was old and in horrible condition and got his ass beat. Pretty simple.

He was old and ill-prepared. People probably underrated Manny's ability to hold the weight going into that fight. In hindsight we don't think of it as a truly incredible achievement but it was a very good win no matter how you cut it. Roach and Manny deserve credit for taking the risk and winning big.

I don't rate it as highly as Manny's wins over Barrera or Cotto though.

Severly weight drained and weak, hadnt been at the weight in ten years.

If you didnt know, weight drain on a fighter ****s up the bodily functions and the fighter can not register his movmenets or even think properly.

Like he said he was thinking to do something but woudnt get off

You ask any fighter if they have had difficulty making weight, starved themself in the process and maintained it for just a while and their actions arent upto par with their thoughts.

Nah. That's what Oscar said well after the fight. Of course, he tries to undermine Pac's win because it was so embarrassing. Take it from Angelo Dundee himself:

"You have these kind of nights and you have to learn to suck it up," said Dundee. "De La Hoya gave it all he had. I'm grateful for what De La Hoya did for boxing. He gave it a hell of a shot. Two great fighters fighting one another. It's too bad one had to lose.

De La Hoya was ready to beat Pacman. He had all the answers and preparation. But the best-laid plans go bye-bye."
    - Angelo Dundee 12/7/2008

...or take it from De La Hoya himself who said:

“Pacquiao is good, there’s no doubt about it,” De La Hoya said. “And he’s fast. I thought there were 10 of him in there. I’m looking here and he’s over there. And I’m reacting to a punch from this way and there’s another coming at me from that way." - Oscar De La Hoya 9/16/09

not really, dehydration and sudden weight loss can give you headaches, make you dizzy and delirious, and confused.

Im not doubting pac man prepared well or is even a great fighter, im telling you that when a fighter is weight drained or sticks at a weight where he is struggling he feels jaded and this efects him physicaly obviously but mentally aswel.

    What part dont you understand?

Oscar lost to Pacquiao because he could not think properly. Sublime.
