…. if Mayweather Manny can't happen for 'similar' reasons (i.e., the boxing cold war)

Oscar fought Floyd in May 2007 at 154lbs and lost via Split decision although in reality it was more like 8-4 to Floyd.

Anyway Oscar wanted a rematch with Floyd and he felt coming in at 147lbs would give him more of a physical advantage over Mayweather so picked a warm up fight with Steve Forbes in May 2008, an opponent who is considered to be very similar to Mayweather style wise and the weight was made for 150lbs.

Oscar beats Forbes and the critics say he looked his best in year so he starts negotiating with Floyd for the rematch but talks break down as Floyd wants a 50-50 split of the PPV. At the same time Margarito knocks out Cotto and becomes the leading contender to Mayweathers Welterweight crown and faced with fighting someone who might actually beat him, Floyd announces his retirement.

So Oscar is left looking for an opponent at 147lbs for his December 2008 fight, everyone wants him to fight Margarito but Oscar wants no part of that beast and instead chooses the newly crowned 135lb champ Manny Pacquiao and makes him come up in weight 12lbs to the 147lb Welterweight limit.

Manny is a huge underdog against Oscar due to the height, reach and weight disadvantages but beats the **** out of Oscar becoming the leading Welterweight contender.

De La Hoya was also severely dehydrated come fight night, this is obvious to see and confirmed by Roach.

Pacquiao actually out weighed Oscar on fight night I think Oscar was 145lbs.

Valero was a sparring partner for Oscar, he smashed him up and gave him a black eye and was kicked out of his camp.

back then there was no "cold war"

Pac had gone through Barerra twice, Hatton Oscar Diaz , he ran right through GBP stable at that time and the Top rank stable too

Floyd just would not fight him !!

Wasn't PAC signed to golden boy and top rank at one time? I know it sounds mental but I'm sure I read that a while back. Did golden boy not give him a bag with 250k in cash to try and get him to sign with them?

Might be a load of crap!!
