This fight is a something of an anomaly in Golovkin's career to date. Golovkin has been knocking out bigger higher ranked MWs in dos rounds, he has dropped Kovalev in sparring and has to spar with cruisers...yet Kassim Ouma a JMW was not only taking his punches, he was actually winning rounds against GGG. How do you explain this? Was it Ouma's constant upper body movement preventing the perfect shot? was his getting low and weaving bamboozling Golovkin? Do you buy into the "airport theory" whereby Golovkin was supposedly sleep-deprived? Or perhaps Ouma was something performance-enhancing? Ouma was hospitalised and didn't fight for 2 years after the fight, but the performance is now beginning to look very good indeed in comparison to other Golovkin opponents. No one else has gone 10 rounds with him, and I suspect it will be a while before we see it again. Let's be clear too, Ouma had lost 5 of his 7 previous fights before Golovkin and was dropped in the fight before that he won.
Ouma had only been stopped once before, 12 years earlier. I hate to use a cliche about African fighters, but it fits here. Ouma was "teak tough". Watching the fight, I have to say that Ouma was coming forward and outboxing Gennady for most of the fight, but in the end was worn down by the stronger, tougher fighter. I think he was ahead on points when he was stopped.
Ouma displayed a great chin in that fight, took and gave some brutal shots, a real war of attrition. Golovkin maybe a huge puncher but every big hitter will sometimes come across someone who is just too durable to be taken out with one punch. Golovkin had to really work to force that stoppage.
What crap ouma was on the juice that day and ended up in ICU and it PHUCKED up his brain...he paid the price and will never be the same.his life span will end around 63 yrs old. GGG finished him because he knew what evil forces where at play.. DON'T MESS WITH THE GOD OF War!!!this is serious not a game!!!
This is a good point, it could simply be a case of Ouma being a very durable guy. Adama was a durable African too and he lasted 7 rounds although he was fortunate to make it out of the 2nd. According to the story, the previous time Ouma was knocked out 12 years earlier was because he looked at his girlfriend in the crowd and got caught. However, Ouma was dropped in his previous fight. Golovkin's shots did not drop him. That fight is on youtube.
Really simple answer...Ouma is one tough, stubborn S.O.B. He repeatedly willed himself through punches that most guys wouldn't be willing to take.
atsch just pulin yer leg, i know better On another note though, is jakeoaree a top 10 HOF poster I got him in at #8 slipping by
Wasnt Ouman done for steroids in that fight? Also GGG did better against him than Taylor did. Plus it was three years ago, who cares. This has no relevance on him fighting today.
