Came in too heavy and was too willing to trade.

    Wrong tactics entirely.

Joyce on his day wasn't a bad fighter, and Parker has definite off days.

Parker has said he came in sick with a bad flu.

But also his tactics were wrong

How? Parker's not really that good and fights in a weak era maybe?

It was his style on that night.

He thought he was facing a slow fighter and found out the hard way he'd made a terrible miscalculation and that he was actually facing a slow-fast speed one

And obviously when any non Brit steps up to Brit Level they're always going to find the waters a lot more choppy

Big Joe, AJ, Chisora, Whyte. Hughie, Massey all gave him 10-12 very tough rounds but when J-Park stepped down in levels and fought The Dosser he won every round at a canter

Wrong gameplan, wrong weight, flu apparently. That and Joyce always had his arguments.

Everyone throwing out various excuses while all I can think is: "Because Joyce was actually good?"
Zhang ruined Joyce and now he is underrated because of it.

How did he lose to Chisora and need a gift SD to bail him out?

To answer your question, styles make fights. Parker isn't all that great against relentless pressure fighters who he can't hurt, while he excels against slow footed low output guys who he's faster than.

Joyce had a good chin and a good motor for such a big guy. That meant he could keep applying sustained pressure to break people down.

Basically...he was actually quite good. Then Zhang (and maybe age too to some extent) ruined him.

Simply came in too heavy and with the wrong tactics. While what he did worked with Chisora it was all wrong for Joyce.

That loss in part led to the success we are seeing from Parker now. Under Lee they were clearly trying to make Parker into the big bruiser who would try to walk down fighters but he never had the power for that so we saw a change in style for Wilder and Zhang and it paid off. Which says a lot about Parker, that he can learn, change and adapt from a loss.

I'd favour Parker now over Joyce. He would try to box him this time, try to take away the jab which would make Joyce far less accurate and probably wins a decision.

    You're right

The Joyce loss was the disaster that Parker needed to revolutionize his game

Because it was simply a terrible style matchup for Parker. Not enough power to hurt Joyce, not enough stamina to keep up with him and not a good enough mover to just avoid him.

Also, Joyce's jab was really ****ing Parker up, even early on.

because parker and his team arent that good. joyce is about as simple a style as you will face at world level, and team parker was too weak to prepare for it. if you need multiple tries to figure joyce out, you suck.

Timing is everything, he met him at the perfect time, Joyce was on form and Parker wasn’t great at the time.
