An opponent wasnt named up until Friday afternoon, then it disappeared off boxrec so I'm guessing they couldnt match him up. Shame as I was looking forward to seeing him!
He was an olympic medallist, a world champion and had two other genuine world title shots. One of which he was on the wrong side of a tight decision (in my opinion-Ottke). "Decent" doesnt do him justice. You would think that he would still have the skill to make some waves on domestic level. Looking forward to seeing him in prizefighter and would love to see him win it (would love Quigley to win it more though!).
Quigleys career could do with a boost he has fallen into the who needs him club would like to see him down at middle against Martin Murray
Are you a big Quigley fan? I like him a lot, good value for money. Always wondered one thing though, he seems tough as ****, so how did he get stopped by Cleverly, who wasn't punching hard at the time? I've not seen the fight.
I agree with all of that except for the Ottke point - imho that was not a tight decision, that was a robbery. A few times, the ref warned Reid for throwing punches! Worst ref I have seen. So I think that Reid, even at 40, has earned a crack at Prizefighter and should do well. The three round format means that he shouldn't gas, and his power and timing should be handy. I'm glad that he is in.
I do like Quigley. Doesnt get the respect he deserves I think, very skilled and can be exciting at times. Should be at MW in my opinion though. As for Clev, it was at LHW for a start which Quigley has no business being at, he was undone by a body shot. I've not seen the fight either but I can only guess that he wasnt conditioned. Certainly not like Quigley to get stopped! I remember there being an interview with Tony in a local paper as well where he said he fell out of love with the sport for a bit and started doing some UFC training, pretty sure it said he was offered a UFC contract which he turned down. Dont know if that was around this time. Without seeing the fight, honestly couldnt tell you what happened. But I do like watching him and would love to see him back in the domestic picture.
At the time I was screaming robbery!!! Having watched it a few times since though, Reid took the pressure off in the second half of the fight and let Ottke back into it. From memory, I think I had Reid two or three rounds up at the final bell (been a while since I watched it though, wasnt there a KD that wasnt counted?). Refereeing was terrible in the first half of that fight. Reid could not do anything without being pulled up. Yet in the second half of the fight, Ottke pulled a few tricks that were ignored. Agree, glad he's in and good to have him back in the sport!
